It isn't a decision, he does get his name on the cup (if we win). I believe the criteria is 41 regular season games or 1 playoff game.

1 game in the SCF - 1 playoff game in the first 3 rounds won't cut it I don't believe.

Of course a team can petition to have a player's name put on the cup even if they don't meet these criteria and the league reviews it on a case by case basis.

Yup. He'll get a ring if we win, not sure about his name on the cup though. The Canucks will likely petition to get him there, I doubt they'll succeed.

I'm still going to just focus on the Sharks here though

There is a question about this?

It's extremely doubtful Manny Malhotra (eye) will be able to play in this year's playoffs, but as remote a possibility as it is (cont'd)...
...Don't be surprised if he ramps up intensity of on-ice workouts to get himself in best possible shape in case there's any chance later.

I'm guessing if it goes 6-7 games next round he might play.

He's not cleared for contact yet, but this is certainly promising.

Ya, he still hasn't been cleared for contact; I suppose it's up to the doctors. Good to see him making progress though.

As much as I'd love having Manny back. I can't see anytime he can return that I would really feel comfortable. I know the team will take every precaution and wait until he is 100% for a long time but I don't know...

Also, his cardio won't be great and it'll take about 10 games or so to really get where it needs to be? Even if he's skating. Salo and Edler skated for almost a month before they played. Granted the cap had a lot to do with that but even at two weeks of hard skating with contact would put us at the start of the Finals (if we get there). That's if Malhotra was cleared for contact today.

The team is fine right now, would it be better with Malhotra at 100%? Absolutely. But who knows how effective Manny will be when he returns, we can't risk it at this time of the year.

What are you talking about?
Manny's played over 41 regular season games this year which is a requirement. For those that don't play that many games in the regular season, there's another requirement that has them play at least one stanley cup final game. For those that miss a large part of the regular season/playoffs due to injury, a team can petition for their names to be put on. Even if this was the case with Manny, the league would have no reason at all not to accept this.

I think Malhotra will play the fourth line instead, taking so many time off would make a negative impact on your conditioning.

I don't want to jump to any conclusions, but I'm wondering if the Canucks know something that we don't know. I find it somewhat odd that Malholtra is walking around without something to protect his eye, and seems to have been for some time.

I'm almost wondering if he's had some very successful eye test results what might indicate that he's progressing much faster then we were originally lead to believe.

Or, this could just be gamesmanship of some sorts.

Exactly. If he comes back at all, it seems obvious it would be at the expense of Hodgson and play 8-10 minutes a night on the 4th line/key faceoffs/PK.

I still doubt he's coming back, but the progress is encouraging.

Absolutely terrible idea to move Lapierre to wing; that's what ruined him in Montreal, and had him struggling in Anaheim.

Isnt the problem that if he works to hard he can rupture a blood vessel in his eye and that'd be a problem? He's skating now, and hes not gliding, hes actually skating, with a shield on there's no risk of reinjuring it, if hes skating hard, he'll play, contact isn't a problem. But im no doctor...

He's already had 2 surgeries, I'm sure the vision in his eye is back to a point where it's at least decent thus no eye protection.

I wouldn't get my hopes up. Maybe someone finally pulled him aside and said, "Manny, if you're going to be out here, it might be a good idea to put some gear on!"

Ya, his case seems to be..."well, Edler was back 4-5 days after he started skating, and Manny's doctor said 6-8 weeks, and it's been 8 weeks." Speculation.

Anyway, didn't I read somewhere Manny might need a third procedure?

I think he and JJ are the best two guys that follow the Canucks around. I've agreed with him since Malhotra started skating that they're targeting a comeback if Malhotra passes his eye test.
