I may be wrong, but I was told the team can give rings to anyone, but the names on the cup are a league policy. I think it is 41 regular season games or 1 SC Final game. The team can appeal for special consideration.

It's dumb, it should be 1 playoff game and not 1 SCF game.
But oh well.

I'd rather see either Tanev or Ballard, but with AV at the helm...

I'm pretty sure Rome has a ring, but he doesn't have his name on the cup. Yes, your read that correctly: Rome. Has. A. Stanley. Cup. Ring.(I think). Maybe AV just sees a winning pedigree in Rome?

well, our defense is clearly better when Rome is not with the team, maybe AV finally understand that Rome is hurting our chance to win the cup.

I wouldn't bet my money on that. Either way... I think the ideal lineup for game 1 is:

Edler-Ehrhoff
Bieksa-Hamhuis
Salo-Ballard(1)/Tanev(2)

but we all know it'll be

Edler-Ehrhoff
Bieksa-Hamhuis
Salo-Rome

And if AV was god, this is the lineup:

Rome-Rome
Rome-Rome
Rome-Rome

I posted this in the Malhotra injury thread as well...

From dobberhockey.com:

Manny Malhotra will play at some point in the Stanley Cup finals, according to a solid connection with the Canucks. His progression has been remarkable. I can’t disclose where I got the information from, but the information I have gotten in the past has all been rock solid.

Hell, AV didn't even want to use the best line up possible by benching Ballard, I cannot insist enough that only a mental would make that choice. Rome is not just a regular #6 defenseman, i saw him in powerplay, penalty kill and the last few minutes of the game when we have superior players on the bench. I seriously don't think AV is helping this team to achieve its full potential, we just win in spite of him in a lot of games.

And I agree that we need to win for Manny, to have him play in at least one of the final would be great, but I don't think that is possible, sadly.

I am not being critical on the Sedins, I just plain dislike them after watching them for 9+ years, not that it would turn me away from being a Canucks fan.

Why Rome why Just say you're not ready to go.

For some reason we started the playoffs with a bottom pairing of Ballard-Salo and shutout Chicago then AV switched in Rome for some reason and he got light up.

Injury report? It's been terrible because he's been moving (for renos).

You know what he's actually talking about, right?

Did you believe the bit about Kesler leaving the game to call his wife because he'd left the iron on too?

Of course he has a ring. You guys don't remember that 1 game he played in the playoffs for Anaheim in 06-07 where he put a stellar performance of -2 on the board!

That experience is priceless

Read the article and in the comments section was one of the best comments ever:

"I'd love for Manny to be able to 'Win It For Manny'."

Gooooo Canucks!

To win a SC, players need to be able to play through pain and injury. I have no reservations about the Canucks resolve to sacrifice and play through pain looking at the injury history of some of our players. Salo, with a ruptured testicle. Hank, cutting off the end of his pinky finger. Manny, almost losing an eye. Kesler playing on one leg. No one can accused this team of being soft.

Rome takes a lot of heat here, most of it warranted. One thing I did notice about Tanev/Ballard though was that they had a lot of trouble getting the puck out of their own end smoothly. Whether that was rust or.......what have you, I don't know.

I guess what I am saying is that there must be some reason the coaching staff goes with Rome. They are not complete idiots.....they have coached the team to 1st in the league and a birth in the finals.

See, at some point, there has to be a bottom line to this decision making...and I think you nailed it. I'm going to admit that as much hockey as I watch, as much as I love and understand this game, I'm also going to accept the fact that they know more than me.

And I haven't always felt this way. I remember Bill LaForge.
