Not sure how that's a good point. Why should the owner be present? The GM and HC represent the team, not the owner.

Well Snyder was there as well, and this is a business opportunity.

Well we wouldn't know if Snyder showed up because he owns the Flyers, or because he owns NBC, or both. I also think that there is no reason for the owner of the teams to show up.

But he is the owner of the Flyers and he did. He identified himself more as the owner of the flyers.

edit: At the 2010 Announcement, Jacobs was present. Pretty sure he doesn't own NBC.

Maybe it's just me but the less involvement Dolan has, the better.

According to the flyers website they "don't anticipate any tickets being available to the public".

That's a bunch of bull. I figured there wouldn't be much but nothing? Ridiculous.

I haven't been following anything about the tickets, how are they anticipating no tickets being left for the public? I'm not planning on going, just curious.

It does seem ridiculous when I read recently that Citizens would fit 50k for hockey

I agree it's ridiculous but it's what they say.

Quote:
How can I purchase tickets?
At this time, we do not anticipate that there will be 2012 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic tickets available for public sale.
Quote:
How many tickets will the Flyers have for the 2012 Bridgestone NHL Winter Classic at Citizens Bank Park?
The Flyers are given a ticket allocation by the NHL. With the number of full and partial season ticket sales at an all time high, we do not anticipate additional tickets will be available for full season ticket holders looking to purchase more seats than season tickets that they own or that there will be a general public ticket sale.

Not sure how they have no plans for a public sale. Seems far fetched to me.

Growth would imply that you are bringing in people who wouldn't normally attend/watch hockey. Are any kind of people other than die hards (most of whom are already season ticket holders) going to spend a good amount of money in order to sit outside in the cold to watch a hockey game they are on the fence about? I don't think so. TV fosters growth, hence the Winter Classic.

Don't get me wrong, I believe tickets should be made to the public. But really that isnt a growth issue. It's more of just a general annoyance to people who are already fans of the sport.

I had a group of 10 friends in college at Buffalo who all got tickets to that outdoor game and were not fans of hockey until after going to that game. Those tickets were very expensive as well. It can be used as an opportunity to grow if it is done correctly.

It can, but I think the amount grown through attending the WC vs the growth from TV leans way more towards the latter.

Jerseys look sick, but personally I can't really stand the old school Ranger look, it looks deformed with the elongated shield.
