2011 Minnesota #7 Prospect

After a couple humdrum contests (aka blowouts), the race for number six was as close as it can get with Zack Phillips and Matt Hackett tying each other with 31 votes (including those from rookie posters unable to vote in the poll). Since there's no system in place to handle ties, I'm using my discretion to give the win to Hackett. Here's why:

1. Hackett has more votes in the poll when rookie users are taken away.
2. More importantly, if my vote for Phillips is taken away Hackett wins 31-30. That seems to be the fairest way to break ties because this is not my individual prospect rankings; it's a collective ranking from the fanbase.

So with that...

2011 HF Wild Rankings:
1. Mikael Granlund
2. Charlie Coyle
3. Jonas Brodin
4. Marco Scandella
5. Jason Zucker
6. Matt Hackett

Too bad the tie breaker vote for Phillips came in too late because he should have won. Well, mods mark me for Phillips.

coyle/philips

Couple interesting notes...
2008-2009 season--both played US prep in New England, same division, rival schools, coyle(thayer), philips(lawrence academy)--coyle was 18 g, 22 a, 40 points.....philips was 19 g, 29 a, 48 points, --both recruited by Hockey East schools, Coyle goes to BU after year in EJHL and has a great year, philips back to CDN-st john sea dogs and wins a Memorial cup, coyle drafted 28th in 2010, philips drafted 28th in 2011..both now end up in Minny..if coyle is #2, gotta think philips is derserving of #7...

I selected Larsson. I think he'll be a strong contributor for us in a couple of years. Playing in the SEL makes me think he's more ready and for as little as we've seen/know about him, I feel like his upside is higher than we initially thought.

This is a great list that we have going right now.

voted Larsson again, and no i don't hate phillips i loved the pick as he was clearly the best guy available and his skating seemed more then fine.

the main reason is i think Larsson who plays with grit, has serious top 6 potential, he skates well and plays a heart and soul type of game as well, the kid i think will be a gem and could be on the Wild as early as next year.

My vote is for Phillips, but it is very close between him and Hackett.

I can't vote a goaltender over a highly projected skater.

Went Phillips, he has offensive talent and plays the N.A. game right now. Larsson seems more like a third liner and is hyped up really heavily by Russo and others but I haven't seen what makes him special yet, aside from having NHL size right now.

Just think, we could have a third line that looks like this:

Clutterbuck - Almond - Larsson

We'd have to refer to it by initials.

Voted for Larsson. Zach Phillips may have more upside, but there are quite a few concerns with him, whereas Larsson's future looks much clearer. Wasn't expected to make Brynas last year, but did, ahead of Rensfeldt who went before him in the draft. Saw his role and production increase in the 2nd half. I do believe he'll be the captain of a very good Sweden team at the World Juniors this year. Extremely versatile competitor with leadership qualities. I see him somewhere between Alex Steen and Eric Belanger, hopefully becoming an elite #3C behind Koivu and Granlund(Coyle if Granlund plays wing).
