Fighters Who Can Play

Who are some prospects or guys in the AHL right now who are projected to be guys who can play at least play 4th line minutes and will fight sometimes. Like 5+ fights a year? Both defenceman and forwards...

Probably the least qualified to comment on this but

Dane Byers?

He is mostly an NHL'er but he has had a few call ups the last few season and gets some majors for the time he plays.

He's more of a depth guy, but I definitely like the game he plays.

Andre Deveaux, 20G and 157PIM in 59GP in AHL - recently signed by Florida. Seen him play and he's pretty effective. Agitates, hits and has okay hands.

Matt Kassian. The signings of Parise and Jake Dowell push him further down Minnesota's depth chart.

I just want to clarify so there is no confusion later on, I want you guys to list players who can play AT LEAST 4th line minutes, so 4th line guys to 1st line guys, not just 4th line guys.

If were talking all time Cam Neely has to be pretty high on that list.

Derek Dorsett had twelve goals last season, and surprisingly they weren't garbage goals

He can't do much offensively at the NHL level though, same goes for Kris Newbury

David Clarkson finished with 138 PIM's and had 46 pts last year. Kind of skewed because he played on the top line, but still impressive nonetheless.

Both Clarkson and Neil are neither prospects, nor did they play in the AHL last season.

I want to know prospects or guys who played in the AHL last season who project to be regular NHLers and will fight 5+ times a season, preferably 10+ but that would limit the players, so 5+ is fine.

Off topic, but no. He played on the 3rd line all year.

Awards:
Corey Tropp has 15 fights over two seasons as a pro. More of a light/middleweight scrapper, but has some offensive chops and could see some scoring line duty again this year in Buffalo. He can play.

The Sharks have a few of those guys...
Brandon Mashinter
Frazer McLaren
Matt Pelech
Sena Acolaste
I expect these guys to see some NHL time this year.

Anthony Peluso would make a good NHL 4th liner, wont produce squat but will be a good energy guy/enforcer. He can skate half way decent as well. He will never get his shot though if he remains with the Blues. Reaves is their go to guy for the next couple of seasons so he will be stuck in the AHL. Leblond is capable of part time duties in the NHL as well but the Caps incident pretty much ruined his NHL career for now. He is a top 2 AHL enforcer. Has looked really solid fight wise down in there.

The Sharks AHL team is loaded with guys that can fight. Should be a fun team to watch again.

The thing with the baby Sharks are that the majority of the grit/energy guys are young. I know that Gogel and Acolaste referred to themselves as the "goon squad" The Worcester guys on our board said at one point they rolled a 4th line of Bonneau-McLaren-Pelech due to injuries.

Ian Schultz for the Habs.

23 points in 60 games with 104 PIMs during last season.

Bruins have Lane MacDermind in the system who definitely fits this profile. 35 points in his last 150 (or so) AHL games to go along with roughly 280 PIMs. 5 games in Boston last year, during which time he took on and fared well against Rupp. Good PKer. Should be a fixture on the Bruins 4th line in the near future.

Brendan Smith will probably be a full-timer with the wings this year. I think he should be considered a prospect and is most likely fitting the OPs description.

Riley Sheahan is a power forward prospect.

Trevor Parkes
Ryan Sproul

Zach Sill might be able to be a solid 4th line energy guy for the Pens.
