Yes, yes, a thousand times yes! I always tell people a wild brook is more beautiful than any saltwater reef fish you will ever see. And thanks for the kind words, BTW.

Last year we shocked a little stream up in the Poconos and turned up hundreds of the most beautiful brooks you'll ever see. Needless to say I went back a few weeks later with my lightest fly tackle. A small foam ant was all that was needed. Every time it hit the water you'd have a fish after it. And every fish were just beautiful.

Interestingly, there were no other fish species in that part of the creek. Not sculpins, darters, or any other trout.

Do you publish the results of the findings or is this mostly for internal use? I would be very interested in seeing some of the results of the surveys.

You can check the Biologist Reports on our website:

http://fishandboat.com/afm.htm
http://pfbc.state.pa.us/Biologist_Re...spx?AFM_Area=5
http://www.fish.state.pa.us/ (homepage)

A lot of the info does end up being used internally, though. Last year we surveyed, probably around 30 creeks and multiple sections of each creek. Publishing all the info would be overwhelming and time consuming. I think it's just most of the major waters that get published.

I work for Area 5, BTW, which is Northeast PA.

EDIT:

Ooo I found one with me in the picture:

http://www.fish.state.pa.us/images/r...x08_09bush.htm

I'm the blond kid wearing the backpack.

Thanks. My dad lives in that area so I'm there a lot...Thank you again.

You inspired me to tie some ants. I don’t have foam cylinders so I had to do a fur body.

Notice it is barbless to protect those brookies

Nice ant!

I found another report where my hands made an appearance. You can see some of the wild Browns we get in creeks in the southern end of our management area (where I live). The creeks down here are loaded with nice wild brownies like that. Not all that size, but beautiful coloration.

This stuff is really great...

I need to explore PA a lot more. I usually just head up to the upper Delaware, I like the west branch so I buy a PA license every year but I would say it is underutilized.

You're making me feel guilty for sitting in the house!

EDIT:
One other question do you do any research with the entomology of the rivers?

I asked my gf if she wanted to go see that, and she said no, she doesn't care for chick flicks. But she made me promise to take her to go see Harry Potter and Hangover 2. I can definitely live with that.

Personally I haven't. It's something we usually take note of when working streams (EPT index) but as far as anything specific to the rivers I don't know. I'll ask one of my co-workers who is the Delaware River biologist if he has any of that info. Unfortunately I'm not sure when the next time I'll see him will be. He's doing night work for a while and I'll be on days.

Edit:

One more Biologist Report for those interested in Stripers:

http://www.fish.state.pa.us/images/r...x06_23dela.htm

Check out the Striper Bryan is holding in the last pic.

I remember being a part of that conversation

I hope he busts it open next year with like 5 goals

There is a golf outing at the course I work at tomorrow and we got the list of guys participating today

I looked over the list and none other than our fav head coach, John MacLean will be playing as he did in this same outing last year

If I see him, I'm going to avoid mentioning anything about this past season

So the DWA from earlier.

I was driving on Rt 35 in shrewsbury on my way home. theres a train coming, the signals going and the things are coming down, and i see this mercedes turn into the jug handle, right before the tracks.

right as the train is coming, the light turns green allowing me to go straight (the jughandle goes parallel with the tracks) and the mercedes slowly creeps towards the line...and flips her signal to the right. the purpose of the jughandle is to make a left turn, not make a right.

THERES A ****ING TRAIN COMING TO THE RIGHT YOU ****ING MORON!

so as we swerve around the benz i look back and go, OH, Asian.
