Brian Rafalski Retires

Posted this in the News thread, but I think it deserves it own now that there is confirmation outside of Kypreos.

Quote:
Kypreos beat me to the punch...but I'm also hearing that Rafalski is retiring on Wednesday. He apparently has been struggling with decision.

In a surprise if not shocking move sources tell Sportsnet the #RedWings will announce retirement of D Brian Rafalski as early as this week.

Best of luck to him. He was a good Devil during his time here.

Wow.

$6 million is a lot to leave on the table.

At least he's not waiting to decide, so Detroit can make contingency plans.

Shame to see injuries force him out. Now come back to NJ and teach our defencemen how to pass.

Damn shame. Was secretly hoping we signed him as a old Schneider like PP specialist in a few seasons.

Thanks Raff, you had a great career.

I`ve always liked him, especially because he was different.

Good luck Brian, you`ve had one amazing career. Time to ring the bell.

lol, Eklund actually called something but screwed himself by not mentioning a name.

He'd be playing at 38 next season, so I'm not sure it's that shocking, other than not taking the money.

Wow, surprised to hear that. Guess his knee is in rough shape?

He and Gionta are the only recent 'big' names I still like. Happy retirement Rafalski!

Rafalski was the only player I regretted the Devils let go. Its too bad because he had a great career. Not too shabby for an undrafted free agent out of Europe.

Not only the money for this upcoming season, but also the money he would inevitably get when Lou calls him for a second tour in NJ when the contract ran up.

I doubt weber will move detroit would gave to overpay in a trade because no way Nashville let's him sign a offer sheet. I also doubt Detroit would offer sheet someone.

I don't think he's going to end up back here. He has money. There's sort of a common trait between the "celebrity" player hosts at the games and the hangers on and such. They don't.

with Rafalski retiring and Lidstrom's contract up DET has 12.2 m freed up plus however much the cap rises, hope they don't take a defenseman that we want
