Very true. If Huberdeau rises enough to be taken in the top three, it guarantees that one of Couturier or Larsson will drop to us.

This site is doing a cool mock draft.

They add a team every day and do a write up on who they will draft.

They have us picking Huberdeau at #4.

It's not a bad pick, but the justification for it is bizarre. Picking Huberdeau does not change our team identity as much as that guy thinks it does.

Hey if the Huberdeau can play center at the next level, he could be a good fit with Kovalchuk. I think Kovy would be a better fit with Couturier who can cover up defensively, score, do the dirty work along the boards and is also considered a top-notch playmaker.

I think either one of those guys would fit well with Kovalchuk. It's just up to Lou to figure out which one will be the better NHL player.

seriously. so by their logic, getting kovy=same ol boring trappity trap devils. drafting huberdoober=the devils are the most offensive thinking, progressive, metamorphosed team evar. shenanigans.

In 2 years(2012-2013 season)

Kovalchuk-Huberdeau-Elias
Parise-Zajac-Palmieri
Tedenby-Josefson-Henrique
Hoeffel-????-Zharkov

I think it could look like that if we draft Huberdeau.

You could also replace Huberdeau with Couturier there.

You think Huberdeau will be our #1 center when he's 20 years old?

It's far too difficult to predict that far in advance. Wayyyy too much changes over the course of two years. Here's our opening night roster (alphabetically) from the 2008-09 season:

Clarkson, Elias, Gionta, Holik, Langenbrunner, Madden, Martin, Mottau, Oduya, Pandolfo, Parise, Rolston, Rupp, Salmela, Salvador, White, Zajac, Zubrus, and Brodeur.

With that roster, would you have guessed that our 2010-11 roster would be:

Arnott, Clarkson, Elias, Fraser, Greene, Kovy, Langenbrunner, PL3, Parise, Pelley, Rolston, Tallinder, Taormina, Urbom, Volchenkov, White, Zajac, Zubrus, Brodeur.

Only 8 names in common. That's less than 50% of the team remaining intact. Who knows where all of our guys will be in two years.

I have to agree with apice, I'm hesitant to project the team more than one year in advance. I don't think even Lou knows exactly what our team will look like in two years. He only knows what he wants the core of the team to look like.

The lines aren't in order Zajac could still be our number 1 center.

Just speculating that's all.

And I do think Huberdeau has the potential to be a number 1 center when he is 20-21 years old it might or moght not happen but who knows.

agreed. zajac is the no1 center and will be for the foreseeable future. i dont see coocoo or duber replacing him. no2 is nothing to shake a stick at either, so theres nothing wrong with either hypothetically drafted center to assume that role in a year or two....should they earn it. with the talent they both have, its not unreasonable. but no1? no way.

I personally don't think Huberdeau will be a good pro, but I know I'm in the minority there. I think Couturier is the guy we should be targeting if Larsson and RNH are both gone, but I don't think even he will jump Zajac. Hell, I'm not sure if he even jumps Josefson, but that's not necessarily a problem. The motto we've developed the last few weeks: center depth wins cups.

I just don't think Huberdeau is the center we should take.

We don't know where the kid will slot in before he's drafted and sees any development time. Once he has been in the system for a year or two, then we'll know more about what we have in him. By the time he's 20, he could be on track to be a first line centre, or he could just as easily be on pace to be a third line shutdown centre. It's far too early to project them so many years in advance.

i dunno how you guys feel, but i still really really like couturier and will be stoked to land him. yea he mightve slipped, but hes still got the talent and frame to grow into a very very good player. sure taking huberdeau would be great too, but i just feel hed end up on wing anyways(like we do) and weve already got boo, kovy and parise. i say grab coocoo and run with it. let huberdeau go to the isles if he drops that far, which at this point i doubt. i say the cats take him, so the whole scenario is moot.

Zajac-Couturier-Josefson

**** in my pants

Same thing with Huberdeau there aswell. It'd be nice to see our center depth back to where it was or near it at least.

I feel bad for Couturier though 2 great seasons but drops because guys like Huberdeau come out of nowhere and have great seasons as well.

I'd be fine with either one of Couturier or Huberdeau if Larsson is gone. I trust Lou to pick the better one out of the two.

Alex Uborn might turn out to be a good player.

count me in as one who has couturier as first choice if larsson doesnt drop to #4....if neither are there then imo gotta go with whoever of the big 4 is left (likely landeskog if not larsson/couturier)

Can't wait for some of you to see him play at the memorial cup. The kid grew on me every single game I watched him play and I'm up in the high 20's. He always does something that makes you say "damn, something else I didn't noticed he does well".

Like yesterday, he was always on the "bad side" of his defender and rolled away from the check 9 times out of 10 to create scoring chance down low. He cycles the puck very well and is always looking to feed someone. I can see him and Kovy doing all kinds of damage with a playmaker like Huberdeau and he can also finish very well and we all know Kovy likes to pass as well.

Huberdeau wouldn't be a bad pick at all... in fact, I think he can be "the steal" of the draft regarding forwards.

How can #4-#6 overall be a steal? Winner of the draft? Maybe.
