I've been taking my time, doing all the side quests first and then doing the major ones.
Just got into act 3 and loving everything thus far.
I might have beat the game by now if not for my video card/win 7 drama last week. In act 2 right now. I have some gripes but so far I stick with my initial 8.5/10 rating. Just looking at RPG's that have come out recently though, outside of Risen and the TW2's predecessor; it's a man amongst boys.
So ummm I have to register the game to even get patches?
You have the gog.com version so yes. I believe the post install patch works without registering but I can't remember. You do need to register to get "troll trouble" and the patch that is coming out this week and next.
I much prefer this to securrom, steam, gfwl, etc. At least this way my game isn't tied to some crappy server, I can install it and it works without any reliance on them.
I do believe it is a little big disingenuous of them to say gog.com's version is DRM free as you could call this a form of DRM. I wouldn't define it that way because you can install the originally purchased version and play it without registering, but for support and download content you have to register.

Not many people I can give it to. I guess there will be no manual patches for this game?
Also, does this game need you to be online to play it?

Manual patches for the retail versions I believe, but haven't seen any indicator one way or another lately. We'll know later this week when they release patch 1.1 But supposedly what they will do is update the GOG.com installer to 1.1 so if you re download the whole game it's pre patched. But they will not do it right away.

No. Make sure you register and get troll trouble though, it's a good quest.
I would point out too that there are reports of serious performance issues on retail copies due to the copy protection gog.com is spared from. 1.1 is supposed to fix this but if I had performance issues on my lacking rig to begin with it probably would have been unplayable.

I asked about the online because it shows an online symbol in the splash menu before the game starts. But I kinda hope they can do a manual patch, because if you can still do a manual patch then even if you give it to someone, it would be in the best working order, just no extra content, which is fine.

Yeah that's so it can check for updates. Unplug your ethernet and it will still launch.
I just did some checking on the forum and some people think there will be a manual patch for gog.com version. So who knows.
BTW if you play invert mouse like I do there is a fix for that now, as opposed to waiting for the 1.1 patch. If you need it I'll post it.

There's a hot fix for the mouse? And I only play invert of anything if it's on the console, such as a joystick. A mouse with first person shooters and third person shooters/RPGs, I don't invert. But that's good that it still works while offline.

The fix for the mouse is an ini edit. I'm a compulsive invert gamer, I simply can't play without it. Good thing the fix was discovered by our polish friends when they got it early or I would have been raging when the game came out. There's actually tons of fixes out there by users while waiting for the official patch.
Honestly the game lacks a bit of polish, but so did TW1 when it came out so it wasn't wholly unexpected. I'm pretty confident the patches will fix these issues given what they did on the first game.
On the plus side the video has 300 ish likes and 4000ish dislikes Also he disabled comments so you can tell he was getting some serious **** for it.
"WHY DOES HE GET TO BLOCK" ROFL.
Frankly it sounds like he never played a game made before 2005.
I hope CDP doesn't capitulate to these guys and nerf the difficulty in a patch or at least maintain the integrity of Hard. I don't really care what they do to easy/normal.
They initially planned to then scraped it. However CDP is supposedly unveiling something at E3, some people think its TW2 for 360; others think it's a whole new IP.
EDIT: just installed my 2gb 6950. Witcher 2 LOVES massive graphics card memory. I put the texture memory size to very large and now I never get those little fps drops I would constantly see on my 9800gtx. Also turned on most of the eye candy. FPS didn't improve much at all but eye candy + smoothness so I'm happy.
EDIT 2: I just tried 'uber sampling' and even with my crappy old E8400+ddr 2 memory the 6950 can run it with only a loss of about 10FPS and some slight hiccups every now and then. I'm impressed, this card has to be amazing with a modern processor.

In a world where the game market is based on dumbing down, streamlining and instant gratification, I can't tell how happy Witcher 2 has made me feel.
It's uncompromising, both in combat and in story/world, and it's the first game in years where I find myself thinking and improvising during combat.
(even on Normal, it's harder than certain other games on Nightmare/Insane)
Honestly, this game I think would look HORRIBLE on the console side. Also, I'm sure the policies of CD Projekt (with the free DLC for all) wouldn't sit well with the policies of Xbox Live.

I'm not quite sure what you mean. Do you mean in terms of graphics? Or do you mean to say that people wouldn't enjoy this game due to its nature?
And do they really do free DLC? That's amazing. I wish I had a computer that could run something like this.

I envy you all.
They announced all DLC will be free. But yes graphics and with Xbox Live, only one DLC is allowed to be free and the rest have to be paid for. How the PSN works, it's up to the devs for what they want to do.

I don't have an issue with graphics at all if the core gameplay is awesome. I loved Dragon Age and it had KOTOR 1 graphics. Conversely, Dragon Age 2 looked great and it is the most disappointing sequel I have ever come across. I just really want this game, hah.
And maybe they could just charge really cheap for the DLC? Would XBL count pre-order DLCs against their 'one free dlc' limit? To be honest I would be perfectly content with only getting one 'free' ... this game just looks beautiful.
