I was a bar manager at Original Joe's for a couple of years, and had the pleasure of bringing in whatever imports I wanted. Sampled a lot, and brought in a lot of great beers. Unfortunately our supplier was on Stony Plain rd, so that doesn't really give you a solution to the long drive to pick up good beer.
What you can do though, is check out http://www.liquorconnect.com which used the be the alberta liquor guide. You can look for particular items and bring up lists of stores that have previously ordered that item. I've found a few things on there and just called around to see where it was available and in stock.
As far as awesome beers go, I agree with Innis and Gunn! Such a solid and unique beer.
If you're into darks the St Ambroise Oatmeal Stout is unreal. Very dark and a bit heavy, but the flavors are great.
If you haven't tried anything from Unibroue out of Quebec, you should do yourself a favor. Pretty much all of their beers are refermented in the bottle, and have a higher alcohol content, but if you drink them in the right glass they are another one of those unique, crazy flavorful beers.
I have many more suggestions if you want them! Original Joe's used to use my old order guide, but they have changed things quite a bit since I left, but they still have a pretty solid selection. Also the Sugar Bowl has a great selection of imports, and some amazing beers on tap as well and is located just off 109th street just south of the high level bridge.
Happy drinking!
Awesome, thanks a million for that website. It appears that the Leduc Co-op Liquor store in Leduc carries the Rum Cask and the Canada Day 2011 edition. Also the Crown Liquor on 91st street by summerside also carries both of them as well.
edit: That's according to the website. I'm going to have to confirm this in person however.
When I lived in Edmonton, I loved to drink beer from Alley Kat breweries (brewed in Edmonton) and the beer from a restaurant called Brewsters that made their own beer. Mmmmm!
So does anyone know of any other liquor stores that sell a decent selection of Innis? Also does anyone know of a place where a guy can find those sweet Innis and gunn glasses with the stem? Or any other Innis and Gunn merchandise?
Try Keg n Cork on 99th Street its a lot closer for you.

Awesome, thanks for making that your first post on these boards my friend.
It's almost worth going to Jasper just to have some of the blueberry vanilla ale at Jasper brewing Co. Locally brewed in the brewery/restaurant.
I truly, truly appreciated that beer when i was there last summer.
That sounds tasty! I'll have to remember that next time I'm in Jasper.
Also, brentz0r, thanks for that link — now that I know where I can potentially get Brooklyn Lager, I'll have to see if the two places actually have it when I go next.

Same here. Had it just outside of London. I had tried it here a few times, and never finished a full one (this is when I was first starting to try new beers), but on one of my backpacking trips to Europe, we stayed at the George Green farmhouse close to Stansted airport and I had my first "proper" Guinness. And then had several more. Definitely tastes different (or like you said - maybe it doesn't )
First time I ever had a Guinness was the first night I turned 18, and after having friends who had already turned 18 telling me how great Guinness was, I really didn't see the big deal. It was all right, but like you, I don't think I finished.
It wasn't until I got to Dublin and tried one that I was like, "okay, this [I]is[I] pretty damn good." I've read people speculating about things like travel affecting freshness, pasteurization altering flavour, and the like — however, I have no expertise regarding any of that, so I'm not one to comment.
Reimer...thanks for the great thread, I bought a couple of bottles of Innis & Gunn today thanks to you. A little expensive, but well worth it IMO. Very tasty and totally differant than anything I've tried before.
Hoegaar, I also got a 6 pack of the Hoergaarden, haven't tried it yet, but definitely will let you know my opinion.
Thanks guys, for making this a really expensive but tasty day
Definitely love Innis and Gunn however I also enjoy two organic beers from Nelson B.C. Blackheart(stout made from oats) and Paddywhack from the Nelson Brewing Company.
Paddywhack :shudder. I think that is the only beer ever that I actually dumped after the second bottle. Don't know what it was about it, but I just did not like it.
Am liking most of the other suggested beers in this thread that I've tried.
No problem for the website. Once again it doesn't guarantee that they have it in stock, just that they have ordered it before. Still makes thing much easier and likely means that of you ask them to bring it in for you they will.
After visiting Germany a few times and loving their beer, it made me interested in the craft breweries we have here.
I enjoyed beers like
König Ludwig Weissbier
König Ludwig Dunkel (for sure my favorite, too bad I can't find any here)
Hacker-Pschorr Hefe Weisse
Schneider & Sohn Aventinus
Hofbräuhaus not just great beer, but great food. Pricey but it's worth it.
Well, if you come to Moncton, drop in to the Pump House Brewery. It's a restaurant/micro-brewery. The Cadian Ale on tap is amazing, and so is their wood fired oven pizza.
If you make it to Nova Scotia, the Keith's Brewery tour is pretty cool - touristy, but well done.
keiths tastes better in NS when it is brewed there. Halifax's real beer pleasure is at Garrison. Their nut brown on tap is outstanding. Irish Red is a close second.
Worst part of moving out of ns is leaving Garrison behind.
Definitely recommend it. I need to get out and try more beer. The Ontario microbreweries I have tried have been very disappointing. Camerons sucked. Muskoka was meh. Creemore was meh. Steamwhistle is good but not great. Anyone have recommendations?
I really like Innis and Gunn - they now have the 1L bottles in the liquor stores in Ontario. I've tried Leffe before it was pretty good. Steamwhistle is also not too bad. Keiths is my default when I'm getting low on $, or when I need to buy a lot. LOL!
It will tell you all stores and bars that sell any type of alcohol.
Anyways, any love for the local beers? I am a huge fan of the Maibock at Alleykat right now. Plus give me a Charlie Flint or Full Moon any day. Love the hops in that Full Moon.

So did I. After reading this thread i decided to go out and buy some beer. Came home with a bottle of Innis & Gunn original as well as the rum cask. Full of flavour for sure. It caught me off guard, but the rum cask is very tasty.
The greatest beer I've ever had was a brand called Augustiner Helles that is only found in Munich. Aboslutely incredible beer, I'm going to try and get Sherbrooke to import it or atleast get a flat shipped over from Germany. It was so wonderful, I cannot even describe how amazing this beer was. It has a long history in Munich and they are very careful to preserve the quality, which is why it isn't mass produced outside of Munich.
I can also say without a doubt that this is fantastic beer and the best I've ever had as well. I was in Munich over a decade ago and still think about this stuff. Great idea trying to get Sherbrooke to bring it in, I have never seen it as an import though.
+1 to the recommendations for Fuller London Pride and Okanagan Springs Pale Ale, two of my favorites. Okanagan springs 1516 is also a good one and come to think of it they used to make a Helles as well.
For the poster who was wondering about Brooklyn beers, last time I was in Sherbrooke they had both the Lager and the Pennant Ale. The ale is the better one for my tastes.
For a recommendation I haven't seen on here yet, Howe Sound Brewing Devil's Elbow IPA is one I tried recently that was delicious.
