My girlfriend hates when I go to Sherbrook because I take so damn long. Now I just go by myself and spend the night there. They should have a cashier in the beer cooler and I would just pay by the bottle and consume in there.
I hate going there in the winter because you brave the elements to get from your car to the store then jump in the cooler for half an hour wide eyed and shivering.
I am shocked that no one has mentioned Trappist. Widely considered one of the top 3 beers in the world. Sherbrooke carries it. I really enjoy a beer from Nova Scotia called Propeller. It comes in a few different kinds but my favorites are the IPA and the Honey Wheat Ale. The wheat ale is my number 1 beer. This coming week I get to try Russian River from the San Francisco area which you can't get in Canada but is a frequent world champion for IPA and double IPA.

The rules that apply for beer also apply for wine if im correct. Producers and liquor stores are not allowed to ship out of province, but one person to another person there is always a way to work it out! Actually, i believe there is laws in place where you are not even allowed to carry wine over some provincial borders. But the main thing is that each province is very very different and you pay each provinces taxes
Another good brewery is Mill Street from toronto. Probably my favorite canadian brewery.
and you pay basically double taxes on it.

Actually, it has been mentioned a couple of times. Trappist is not a brand, it's a type of beer made by trappist monks. Various brewers started capitalizing on the popularity of trappist ales some time ago, so they formed an association (International Trappist Association) to stop regular brewers from taking advantage of the trappist name.
There are only 7 "real" trappist breweries (6 Belgian, 1 Dutch), each making from 2 to 7 different beers:
Orval (amazing)
Chimay
Rochefort
Westmalle
Achel
Koningshoeven (the Dutch one)
and finally
Westvleteran - the Westvleteren 12 is widely considered by connoisseurs as the Holy Grail of beer - partly due to its taste, partly due to it's rarity. I'm hoping to get to try some the next time I make it to Europe.
Just to let the Guinness draught fans know, I just picked up a six pack at the Liquor depot for $9.99. It's pretty tasty stuff to be honest, although I know it pales in comparison to the real draught.

Tonight has been a good night. I've had a Guiness Draught and I have had a Innis & Gunn Canadian Cask.
The Canadian Cask is great with the Whiskey and Raisiny/Orangy smell and taste.
Also can someone explain to me what an IPA is.

A true ipa(India pale ale) is at about 50ibu+. Kind of like grapefruit juice, you keep going back for more. Keith's India pale ale is a terrible example of an ipa.

Oh okay. I know the alley kat full moon is pretty high on the ipu scale so does this make it an ipa? Or is an ipa a type of beer like a lager or a stout? Then most authentic ipa's have a btu of 50+?
Yeah I tend to drink a lot of dark beers as well. I fell in love with that beer whe I first tried it and now I am glad I don't have to travel all the way back to Bavaria just to have one.
Hey man I might have lied to you. Go check out Accent and let me know if that is the same Dunkel. Only reason I am second guessing myself because I was at a liquor store today and saw another German beer that was dubbed dunkel and it wasn't the konig ludwig dunkel. So let me know if the stuff at Accent is the konig ludwig. Either way the stuff at Accent was great.

I went to the one in Edmonton and was pretty dissapointed. They call it international Beerfest but the majority of the booths are local businesses. So here in Edmonton there was booth like Hudsons, Brewsters and then clubs like Fluid and Diesel. My impression was that there was gonna be a lot more international stuff like random German beers and more Asian beers.
At the end of the day I felt my money would have been better spent ($25 for entry tickets and another $30 for sampling tickets) at Sherbrook and buying $60 worth of random singles.
