HF Ranks the Sens organization 16th

Quote:
16. Ottawa Senators

Strengths: Defensive depth is the name of the game for the Ottawa Senators. Jared Cowen and David Rundblad lead the pack as two cornerstones that provide uniquely contrasting styles. Rundblad had a sensational season in the Swedish Elite League scoring at a remarkable pace. Patrick Weinroch and Eric Gryba are two former NCAA defenders who've completed their first full seasons in the AHL. The Senators also have a variety of two-way forwards who are close to competing for a regular NHL job. Weaknesses: Robin Lehner gives the Senators a reason for hope between the pipes, but there is no depth in goal after him. Despite the great breadth of forward talent, there does not appear to be any with game-breaking talent. Top 5 Prospects: 1. David Rundblad, D, 2. Jared Cowen, D, 3. Robin Lehner, G, 4. Jakob Silfverberg, C, 5. Patrick Wiercioch, D. Lost to Graduation: Zack Smith.
Seems really fair given our weakness up front... the 2011 draft should put us top 10.

We might find ourselves in the top5 by July 2012. Maybe #1.

This summer/next year will definitely change our standings, depending what our prospects do and who we get.

Again, makes me excited to see what happens the next few years.

I hope not, since that would likely mean we'd be picking first in the draft next year...

I was thinking maybe higher, for having a top 5 prospect and another top 20. Our depth is terrible beyond those two though, so I suppose it's fair.

16th is very good considering we have one goalie prospect and only a few future top 6 forwards. Hopefully the draft will push us into the top 10.

This is a great point, although if the rationale for HF is to abstractly look at what's coming next in terms of volume (rather than team needs) it works. I have a few quibbles with HF, but on the whole they do a good job.

Yeah I'm fine with this ranking. As awesome as our blueline prospects are, we lack goaltending and forwards. Hopefully this draft changes that.

But jumping from 16th to 1st in a little over a year? I think it deserved to be questioned.

Well this year's draft could go a long way toward pushing us up the ranks.

No doubt. I now understand what you meant, We would need to be 1st overall next season to get that for sure.

I would not mind having another ****** year and getting in the top 3 next season. I mean the misery of the team doing bad but watching developing rookies kind of makes up for it.

Well, anywhere in the top 5 really. It will depend on who graduates this upcoming season to a large extent, but I'm sure Binghamton's recent (and hopefully continued) success will have a bearing as well.

I'm ok with it. But with this years draft we should be up a few points.

A huge dose of kudos to the Murray's, Dorion and the entire scouting staff I believe they were 26th or so when they took over

Reimer I don't think graduated and the Leafs have added a bunch of quality goalie prospects Rynnas, Scrivens, and Owuya
There defense has name value too Aulie, Gardiner, Blacker
Forward depth too Kadri, Colborne, Frattin, McKegg, Ross, D'Amigo, Komarov

It's a top 10 system I'd say 6-10 is fine... top five I think they lack another blue chip talent

We're behind NJ at 15th? Didn't THN have them ranked near the bottom of the league, likely because they've traded high picks in recent years and have developed jack all in years?

These are too influenced by fans and homers. Wasn't our writer a fan of another team?

Btw, I can't to read the Rangers one to find out which 5th rounder from 5 years ago was actually a generational talent. Aw crap... I spoiled my fun and just looked at their team page. Some 2nd rounder they drafted last year that I've never heard of is going to be a 1st liner like almost every other forward they've drafted in the past 5 years.

Wish that guy were writing for us. Then we could go nuts on the main boards about how Mark Stone was about to be the next Cam Neely... only healthier, better and tougher.

THN
Ott = 16th
Tor = 28th

Since then, Tor added what? Colborne and Owuya. Ottawa added DaCosta. None are moves that would turn those pro rankings on their ears like this.

Fans and homers.

Reimer put up 37GP .921sv% and THN did not even consider that to be a top 50 prospect.

Rynnas 30GP .911sv% was not even a Leaf top 10 prospect
Scrivens 33GP .924sv% was not even a Leaf top 10 prospect

Hell Matt Fratten who dominated NCAA with 44GP 36G and 60Pts was not even considered to be a top 10 Leaf prospect... I don't know Butler is Ottawa's 5th ranked guy and Fratten is not listed...

Speaks to the Leafs depth that these types of guys are not listed
