For the same salary as Zubrus, I'd ship his ass out (before Clarkson) to make room for Jagr. The potential point difference alone makes sense to me.

Once again, all the haters on this board saying, "nay" to getting Jagr, are the same ones who, if it ever came to fruition & we did somehow end up getting Jagr...turn into a Jagr darlings.

Super secret plan. We should let him sign in the KHL. Then he can walk away from his contract there, and we can sign him to a one year $500,000 deal. As he passes through waivers the Islanders claim him. Genius, can't believe nobody thought of this yet.

I think you vastly over-estimate what Jagr has left, and how effective he would be here.

Hey, I'm all for a youth movement & have been saying so for the past 3-4 years.

However, if we somehow end up with Hitchcock as a coach, our youth movement takes two steps back.

Hitch = playing mostly seasoned vets. Hopefully, he isn't our choice.

if Hitch is the coach hes not going to have a choice but to play young guys. the only 30+ year old position players on our roster are Elias, Zubrus, Rolston, White, and Tallinder

So you think we should get Jagr because Hitch might be the coach?

There are two things Lou should be focused on: Re-signing Zach and trying to add a PMD if possible without completely handcuffing himself cap wise. Jagr should not even be on his radar. We have enough good forwards.

Probably. But there's no feasible way to do this other than making a pure salary dump trade, or taking on someone else's bad contract. At this point, it's probably better to ride out the one year remaining on the contract.

Jagr still has plenty left, but I agree he probably wouldn't be too good on the Devils.

No. This thread I started has nothing to do with Hitchcock. I simply asked, if Jagr was obtainable, would you want him. In my opinion, seeing how well he played with Elias, if he was willing to come here for $3 mil or less & we could move a player like Zubrus or Rolston so as not to take away from a prospect or add onto salary, I would do so in a heartbeat. However, if it meant "in addition to" & competing with our prospects or tacking on more salary cap, then no. I wouldn't.

Please...Hitchcock is one of the last coaches I want here in NJ!!!

There's worse people than Jagr that could land on our roster, but probably none of them would cost as much and come with as high of expectations...

I say pass. I see another Detroit - Modano situation unfolding if he came here, only more expensive.

nope- hitch would sooner dress the starting lineup from 'muppets on ice' than play our youth. he hates kids. he showed up on to catch a predator not to molest, but to dismember. don't kid yourself jimmy- if hitchcock had the chance, he'd kill you and everyone you care about!

You cannot be "a darlings." Using 'a' means you are referring to a singular.

Every time I see this title at a glance, I think it says "Jesus" instead of Jagr.

Makes me chuckle a little...about the only good thing with this thread!

Hahahahahahaha! My thoughts exactly! Cap room aside let's just think about it. Jagr has been playing Hockey since he left the NHL. He's been playing the whole last three years overseas there, so he's not rusty, but he hasn't been playing with the same players. Aside from the World Championships he hasn't played with or against any of these guys in the NHL in three years now. He might be a good deal somewhere, and I think he'll play well. Mario Lemieux played well after being retired for 4 years, and he didn't play any Hockey at all. He was a little bit young than Jagr, but still whatever.

Point is this is not the organization for Jagr to make a comeback to the league with. I think the Devils in particular need to not focus on acquiring old talents anymore just like they did with Brendan Shannahan, and Bobby Holik a couple years ago. If there is anyone to sign then sign someone young. Old players aren't a bad thing, but still this isn't the organization. This can make the whole team look like a joke. Put better use to that money. Jagr wouldn't be worth a hell of a lot of money, because he's been gone for 3 years, and he's 39 years old. Still though put that to better use.

Lot of pages for a guy who has specifically said he wants to play for one of three very clearly listed teams.
