Miller, Lundqvist, Kiprusoff, Backstrom, Brodeur?

Gormley's take....

Quote:
There are whispers that the Flyers may make a pitch for Ryan Miller, Henrik Lundqvist, Miikka Kiprusoff, Niklas Backstrom or Martin Brodeur. The only way to pull off a Miller, Lundqvist or Brodeur deal would be to involve a 3rd team. Kiprusoff will be 35 in October and makes $5.833 million. Backstrom has a $6 million cap hit and would require them to shed at least $3 million. They could trade Jeff Carter to the Wild. Gormley adds they could send Kris Versteeg and Matt Carle for Backstrom and perhaps Brent Burns (It would take a lot more than Versteeg and Carle to get Backstrom and Burns IMO).

If the Flyers got Backstrom and Burns I would be ecstatic, but Carter would be gone and we'd have literally no size down the middle. I don't want to trade Carter, but that'd be the only way to get those two.

Yeah that one would be the best option but not ideal. Funny thing is I would like to see Gormley's high tech CIA listening device that is picking up these nebulous "whispers."

Maybe so but what are you basing your opinion on exactly?

Well, Lundqvist would cost you something like Richards +. That is why. You would have to overpay greatly to land any one of them other than, maybe, Kipper (who is old and wearing down).

Bull-ish.

Miller and Lundqvist are going no where, thats for sure...and Brodeur, he would NEVER come here.

Well, there's just no way Miller, Lundqvist, or Brodeur get moved. NJ wouldn't do that to Marty, and the other two are too valuable to their team right now.

I don't know much about the others, except that I don't want to trade as much as Carter for a 35+ with that sort of hit.

Oh I'm not denying it's unlikely but I dislike when people make these 100% predictions that something will or won't happen. Like Saturday being the end of times or the world or whatever..just a pet peeve of mine.

Okay, 99.9% sure Lundqvist, Miller, and Brodeur do not come to Philadelphia.

Miller or Lundqvist?! The end really is near, Gormley has completely flipped his lid.

Versteeg + Carle for Burns + Backstrom might be one of the worst serious trade proposals I've read in a while. They would never do that. 2 of their 3 best players for our cap-scraps.....

Backtrom and Kipper may move... I very much doubt the Devs will move Brodeur, as it would cause a riot. However, they have a serious cap problem in Parise.

To get there, the Flyers have a few trade options. They could send Carter and his $5.3 million contract to the offensively starved Wild, or they could ship Versteeg ($3.1 million) and Carle ($3.4 million) to the Wild for Backstrom and perhaps defenseman Brent Burns.
Reads like two separate trade proposals to me.

I really doubt that Brooks Laich signs for that much. I was thinking 3.5m+

I don't want him/them either (cap hit is stupid) .... but if this is the 'rumour' I may as well play it up with the roster...

I don't see anywhere in that article where he says we'd GET any of those goalies, just that we'd make a pitch for them...which is great, hopefully we do. Although its unlikely any sign here, so we'd be stuck in free agency.

I actually wouldn't want Brodeur at this point... extremely unreliable, and with only one year left on his deal I wouldn't want to give up anything significant for him.
