Dale Weise

Doesnt cost more then what we give him on his RFA and he's pretty much accounted for in our cap.

Scrappy player who likes to play in the crease.

Plus lower cap cost if he replaces a higher priced player.

Tort's seemed to like him in the handful of games he was up last year.

Doesn't win alot of fights but a year with Prust tutoring him could change that I bet.

And if you go with the theory that power forwards take time to develop then he's just about due age & stat wise to prove his metal in the Big Boys league.

And his numbers are pretty good:
08/09 - 74gp 11g 12a 64pim
09/10 - 73gp 28g 22a 114pim
10/11 - 47gp 18g 20a 73pim

Then, the chance of picking one of those players is so miniscule it's stupid to hope to build a winning franchise like that.

Don't bother using the 03 draft because it's obvious that was a special draft and we're one of the only teams that blew it.
didnt the Blues draft Belle that year?? i dont remember him being a good player. so thats the 2 teams that blew it

rangers callahan and dubinsky. 4th and 2ed round pick, that turned out to be good players so far

You really can't blame the Rangers for dumping that mental case. He almost played himself out of the NHL. I still don't trust him.

If you look back and study the record when guys like Weise and Newburry were playing we were winning a lot of games and not taking crap from anyone. winning and losing a fight isn't a big deal it is being able to show up that means the most

Weise was, by and large, atrocious in his appearances with the Rangers this season. That doesn't mean he is an atrocious player overall, but attributing this team's wins to his presence in the lineup is insane.

I'd love to carry Newbury as the extra forward. I realize he won't play 82 games but at the very least put him in the division games.

Really ? I seem to remember him dominating a game in Philly scoring hitting and fighting

Dale played well in the Philly game and then he took that bad offensive zone penalty in the Florida game where Torts got pissed at him and benched him. It hurt his confidence.

He did ok after that, but nothing like in preseason or the Philly game.

He has to have a big training camp and stand out if they even bring him back (he might get packaged or just let go) especially with guys like Wilson, Borque, Horak, Grachev, and Hagelin all fighting for those lower 6 grinder/checking jobs (Thomas won't be used as a checker if he makes the team out of camp) not to mention Yogan, the two Swedes (Fasth and Lindberg), and even Krieder coming in after next year.

That was the one game he looked good in. He was horrible after that.

I liked Newbury better personally.

If you have the right scouts..you will find talent.
We passed on Stastny a few times that year. I think we took a guy right before he was selected.

Edit: Sauer was taken a few picks before.

LMAO dale weise dominating?? you can't possibly be serious. i know that you are biased toward all goons but really?

weise played 1 game against philly in his career, no points, a fight, 1 hit, 1 shot

playing a single shift were you don't look out of place isn't 'dominating'

I'm in the crowd that says don't sign any fighters just let newbury and weise battle it out to play on the 4th line and carry the other as an extra forward

You remember incorrectly, then. He doesn't have a single point in any of his NHL appearances. And "dominating"? Kid played a little over 10 minutes and looked okay on the forecheck, and had a chance or two. That certainly isn't "dominating".

Ryan Malone had a game to remember on Saturday afternoon.
Malone was hitting, knocking people out, and getting pucks on net. His hit on Zdeno Chara really set the pace for the rest of the game. "It was a big hit, for sure,'' Victor Hedman said. "But you know what, that's 'Bugsy.' That's what he does. He plays physical and he creates space for other guys.'' Simon Gagne added, "He's a big power forward, and when you play teams like Boston and you're in the playoffs, you know you're going to need your big guys like that, and he really did a good job for us.''

Who do the Rangers have that can do this?

Dubinsky? I don't see how Ryan Malone is relevant in a conversation about 4th liners though. Ryan Malone is a Top 6 forward.

A lot of posters over the last few pages have indicated the Rangers have enough size and toughness...I was using this as an example.

I also pointed out how having EC on this team serves no purposes, yes, he is great on the shootout and once every 10 games shows his immense talent but I would rather use that spot on someone who can bring some havoc.

I love Dubi and he is an effective fore checker but he is one of bigger guys and at 6'1 & 210lbs, he is not going to scare too many people.

These are the guys who are expendable:

Sean Avery
EC
Drury
Wolski - willing to give him one more season
Prospal - Love him but his time is up
Gilroy - if MDZ beats him out then he is gone.

That is 6 roster spots up for grabs.

If they bring in Richards...then the Rangers have to go size 4 out of the 5 positons.

IIRC it was kind of a back door shady deal that got Malone to Tampa, something about Tampa hiring his dad a month or so before he became a UFA. I think Tampa also traded a pick for his rights prior to the FA signing period.

Ryan Malone signed a 7 year deal with TB three years ago. Shady deal? TB acquired his negotiating rights and signed him. Greg Malone wasn't some bum off the street given a scouting job to lure his son to TB. The father was a scout with Pittsburgh and TB before joining TB. Brian Lawton hired him.
