Gomez had 41 points in the 45 games Markov played in 09-10.
I think Gomez can hit 70 points if Markov plays with him for the full season. Pac will also help to this, but he is not the key to Gomez's success. Markov is.
ok i think we can all expect/wish for gomez to produce more than 38 pts next season but calling for a 70 pts is just insane...
Gomez needs that adjustment to his game. What exactly? your guess is has good has mine. He has great speed but hardly challenges the other team's defense. Vision? ok he's done some nice play but overall, no finishes.
I would take 20g/40 point center over 5 goals-35assist, and if I have to answer that.....
In my books, if Gomez is to revive his career, he's gonna have to start putting more pucks in the net. For me it's not so much the points he got but rather the goals he scored. I mean 7 fricking goals.....really? He has to be better then no c'mon man!
Creating for you teammates is great, it's time he puts more puck in net......do I need to download that stupid Andrei kostitsyn"take puck to net, put puck into net and put puck.....net" video? Man, all I want is for them to win a cup and in the meantime, a 50 goals scorer, plus a 100pts guy...a 30 goals scorer would also be great. A solid defender would be great addition to.
For the love of God, can Gomez go back to no 91 !?
Seriously Gomez needs to go back to basics, wich is think of new plays.. he needs to see himself as a rookie who think about new plays, new moves, new timing, new dediction... Gomez as to forget the sucess he had, now everyone knows what he does... wich is enter the zone and instinctly either stop and pass the puck on the boards or himself drift to the side to avoid any hits... he wont drive to the net he wont shot with confidence.. what is that? The ahl? Be a man Scott.

So if Gomez plays with Pacioretty and Markov at the same time, he'll win an Art Ross?

And people thought it was insane to expect Plex to get 70 points after his mediocre 39 points season (08-09).
I didn't "call" for a 70 points season. I said that if Markov plays the whole season with him, Gomez CAN reach 70 points.
I didn't say Gomez WILL reach 70 points.
Okay, so we have one example where one of our own players reached 69 points, only to follow this with a terrible 39 points season, and then comes back for a 70 points season. So there is a precedence there.
Then we also have the fact that, like Plekanec, Gomez reached 70 points before, and that was actually his average when he played with Markov. So there is a precedence there too.
There's also a precedence of Gomez hacving chemitstry and getting points with both wingers he'll probably have next season, instead of just one.
But it's just completely insane to see the possibility that he could reach 70 points?
The next time you quote me, do it when you'll have grown up a bit and learned that life is cycles, not static.
Thanks for educating me, I would have never know that if you didn't tell me There is a reason Saku is a hero in this town. I've said that many times but I believe this team will win a cup with a core that was taught by Gomez, its just what I believe. There is no doubt in my mind that Saku is 10 times the player and person than Gomez is, I don't deny that, I just don't think Saku is a winner, in terms of Stanley Cups, its my personal belief, I dont demand others to share my thoughts or beliefs, its just my hope ... why because I want a cup and I think PK and Price can deliver it.
Saku didn't, for me, it is that simple.
I got to 100% disagree with you. Saku managed to captain a team that was not near as good as what we have now and bring them further then we got this year. Do you not remember the team we had in 02, or 04 for that matter? Doesnt even compare to what we have now. If you replaced Gomez with Koivu this year we'd probably be gone to the east finals. The guy performs at his best in the playoffs. FACT
Your post sounds more like wishful thinking than actual opinion.
I know that because you tell the reader how unsure you are about 5 times : "I believe, it's my personal belief, it's just my hope, I don't ask you to believe too". It just sounds like you're trying to convince yourself of something that's not there.
Have the courage of your opinions whether they are positive or negative. Ignoring reality because it's harsh doesn't make it go away. Gomez is not any more of a winner than Koivu. The devils had a stanley cup winning cast before he got there, and he was merely a supporting character, and not a very good one for at least his first cup. Swap Koivu and Gomez and Koivu is winning cups left and right while Gomez is vilified for being gutless and horrible. The habs would also have been without a captain. Gomez teaching our young players how not to show up for half the season, then the 2nd half, and then the playoffs is the last thing I want to see.
There really is no point in saying Koivu wasn't a winner and saying Gomez is because it's not true. The team Gomez has right now is a million times better than any team Koivu had with the exception of the 1st in the east cast, but that year Gainey screwed it up by putting all his eggs in one basket with Price and so Biron outplayed a rookie in round 2 and that was all she wrote.
Poor Koivu, victim of terrible management decisions since forever.
But you know, carry on with the excuse train for Gomez. It's funny how Gomez is getting so much rope for sucking whereas Koivu wasn't given any for playing with twice the effort, courage, determination and heart with half the tools, and with sucky teams around him. Sometimes I just don't get how people think.
It's just something I believe.
Actually, his opinion was that Koivu while an inspiring/hero type of player was not the type who could teach others; while his hope is that Gomez is the type of player who can. To me that was very clear.
Now, you may disagree with him, but deliberately misunderstanding him just to mock his opinion is below you sir. I don't agree with his point of view either, but that doesn't mean I am going to try to belittle him or his POV.
Gomez essentially got 60 points (59 in less than a full season) the first year in Montreal. His talent is still there, he's just had a bad and unlucky season. With Gionta and Pacioretty he should easily make 50 points next season in a bounce back campaign. 60 is plausible and if everything bounces his way 70 is possible (if not likely).
I think 60 for Gomez is a reasonable expectation, especially if Markov, Gio and Pacioretty stay relatively healthy. That would give the Habs 2 offensive pairs on defense and 2 pretty balanced offensive lines regardless of who ends up with Plekanec and Cammy(AK Jagr Laich Upshall Cole etc?).
