I'm very confident that he'll be signed and we won't have anything to worry about. I'm sure we all know about the unfortunate lacrosse accident that he was involved in while he was in Junior. I remember after being drafted by the Isles, this kid was so honored and grateful to the organization for taking a 'chance' on him. He was really emotional about it as anyone in his situation would have been. Don't worry periferal, we'll be seeing #11 at the Bridge or possibly the big club next year - no, not Andy Hilbert!
When his name is on a contract I'll believe it. Until then, I'm concerned.

Again here's why:
He has one more year left on his KHL deal TAX-FREE.
He cannot escape that KHL deal unless he buys it out, essentially meaning he'd be paying money to not earn money. That'd be like giving your company $40,000 to not earn your $100,000 annual salary.
The Islanders CANNOT pay one penny towards a KHL buyout.
If he did buy out his KHL contract, he would earn LESS in the NHL.
...And even less if he played in the AHL.
He doesn't speak English.
So basically he can hang around his homeland for another year earning a lot more money with friends and family and a language he speaks. Hell - There's no guarantee he'll ever want to come to America, but I promise you that Fall 2012 is the absolute earliest that he would.

very good reasons. but.
I think it's more than ZERO.
If the team believes Petrov is the most NHL-ready prospect and can play a top 9 right away, they may sign him to a 1 way deal for enough money just to get him to North America.
Petrov hasn't exactly lit-up the KHL and he may be better suited to North American hockey with next year being a perfect year for HIM to come to the NHL-AHL (IF he ever intends to)
People talk about getting Gregoire a top 9 role for next year. I'd say Petrov is probably a better prospect, more NHL-ready so I'm sure that if the player is interested AND if the team feels the timing is right, they will make it happen.
Hard to know what the team feels about Petrov's development though. I'm sure they see him play much more than we do.

Sorry Redbull...I'm staying with "zero chance."
While Petrov is playing in a "men's league," he still needs to acclimate to North America. There's no guarantees her's ready for the NHL and he isn't coming here unless he's GUARANTEED an NHL job.
Plus there's no contract that the Islanders could give him that would come close to the amount he's going to make in Russia. I don't remember the exact number, but Petrov has a contract worth a few million US dollars a year TAX-FREE. As a 3rd round pick he'd be insanely lucky to get 1 million from the Islanders, which then he'd then have to pay tax on.
And besides...You know by the way Snow hands out contracts, the player isn't getting any extra dollars.
And after all that...Who's to say that Petrov even wants to come here? You would think that at the very least he would start learning English in anticipation of living/playing in America.
I expect him to come again for rookie/prospects camp in a few months, turn a few heads, and then head for the door.
I know we all want to see Petrov here, but truly....ZERO chance until Fall 2012 the earliest.
(And since the NHL CBA ends after this upcoming season, I'm sure Petrov would like to see if NHL players will have jobs in 2012-2013 before giving up his current one in the KHL).

Considering all the action going in Islander Country, not surprised by this. Moulson, Grabner, Okposo, the arena vote, and now Weight's retirement - that's not insignificant.

i think this is all between 3 weeks (oh and i mean arena announcement, not the action vote).
garth has been busy, cizikas will get signed. a non-issue.

...And to me "non-issues" are are issues until they are officially "non-issues."
When the kid signs, I'll check that off my off-season "to-do" list. Until then I'm concerned. Snow has this weekend to get it done or he goes back into this year's draft.

Like the realism Periferal (a man of my thinking pattern), but in this case I've got a realllll strong feeling that they're simply waiting for the end of the Majors' season before the announcement is made.
At this point, it'd be a DISGRACE if Cizikas is permitted to re-enter the draft. He's proven himself to be as good a young prospect as any non-first rounder can be.

Chap-
Agree on it being a disgrace if he's not signed. I don't know what's going on behind the scenes, but I'll be equally as worked up as you if Cizikas is NOT in the Islander family come sundown Tuesday.
If the deal is actually done, I assume they wouldn't announce it while he's still a playing as a junior player. I hope that's the only reason it hasn't been.

#Isles sign Swedish goaltender Anders Nilsson to three-year, entry-level deal
Folks, for those of you who know little about him... Be ready to get very excited, especially once he's gotten used to the NA rinks and pressure.
I truly believe he's the best of the bunch!
I'm glad we signed him. But I have to disagree that he's the best of the bunch. Though I've only seen highlights of Nilsson, depending on whether he can stay healthy, Poulin has already shown me enough to prove he has the skillset and temperament to be one of the best goalies in the NHL. Playing in front of an ECHL defense in the AHL, Poulin at 20, proved to be the best goalie in Bridgeport AND NY (except for Roloson). The only IF with Poulin is IF he can stay healthy. What he did playing for two terrible teams with two terrible defenses was shocking (in a good way).

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhh, you don't have to convince me about how good Poulin can be. I'm all with ya.
And thus I say Nilsson is the best of the group despite feeling the exact same way about Poulin's possibilities as you do.
Thus, this is very, VERY good news for us and our Isles!
This guy has spent two years doing amazing things playing against men in what is widely considered the 2nd or 3rd best league in the world!
Cizikas held pointless, but the majors win 3-1 tonight to set up the Mem Cup final vs Huberdeau and the Sea Dogs...can't wait to see how Casey does shutting JH down...oh, and after that, the Islanders will announce he has reached terms on a three-year, entry level deal.

Book it.
Bonzo, how many times did you have Petrov coming to the Isles ? I'll wait till Strang or Botta announces it before I book anything.
I suspect Cizikas' agent and the Isles have it all worked out and it's just being held up until Casey's done the Mem Cup. He doesn't need the distraction while in the middle of all that. Plus Garth is probably hoping for being able to say "Captain of Memorial Cup winning team signs".
I don't think there's any chance they don't get it done.
Wow, the kid can't catch a break. Hopefully he winds up with a team that gives him top line minutes like he got at the end with the Maineacs.
The team is likely just going to move to Sherbrooke in Quebec, so ultimately it'll probably be the same team, with a new name in a new city. So it shouldn't be too big of a problem.
Cizakas could very well be a fourth line center as early as next year and would be an upgrade - talent wise - to ZK. I love what I saw in this guy...could that be one of the reasons they have not signed Z at this point?
Boy Huberdeau really impressed me too this spring. He has grown on me big time. His vision is top shelf. I think he will be gone by 5th pick though...who will "fall" to us???
Next years team could have Nino, CC and possibly this years first rounder on the roster.

Can I get it on CD or tape?
Something I can enjoy while driving. Maybe some John Tesh narration....he has a good voice.
Snow will leave things be with many prospects, though Nino might get Bailey'd this year. We have a full roster so no pressure to fill the spots he couldn't spend dime one on.
Cizikas might well get signed soon. Or he might not. Wait for the audiobook. Maybe a cartoon feature.....or a magazine! Something to enjoy while awaiting dental drilling.

I too have been wondering if the Isles aren't fully hoping to go with either Cizikas or Ullstrom up the middle on line 4 next season? We should know much better by the end of July.
Speaking of Ullstrom, I think another year in the AHL will see him be a 20-40-60 type of guy.
