You will be in school when training camps start. Most regular pro training camps start once the NHL has made its first cuts. So typically you are looking at end of September/beginning of October start to camps.
I forgot to mention that, but i've never gone to see it. Is it common to do at this level? I know we had a guy make the team once.(infact it was the first year they did it) then anther(I think his name was Obi Ada or something)played for Quad City this year.

Expect to see a decent amount of fights in the FHL camps.
I wouldn't doubt it in a league like this, but i have seen some pictures of ours in the past, some decent fights

But not really near SPHL level.
Thanks Panda, I never could get his last name, wow he even dressed in a game for us, I don't recall it tho. I think i've even heard of some "established guys" being at this camp, I think Andy Brandt it was, or someone who was more of a physical typpe player from Gwinnett was at the camp 2 years ago.
The SPHL is good, it's funny though how it's made up of a lot of "I failed" ECHL markets. The Hockey is an OK watch. I don't see much difference then it or the ECHL other then everything is sll a numbers game now.
anyone know if the steelheads are known for hosting tryouts?
Anyone can correct me if I am wrong, but I don't think the Idaho Steelheads have free agent camps. Their camps (like a lot of ECHL teams) are invite only and start in September. Most players in these camps have training camp contracts.
Elmira and few other teams put on free agent camps to make money and will take maybe 3-4 players to a training camp.
Again, why waste your time on free agent camps when you are still in university playing ACHA D3? Free Agent camps can be very rough so why risk an injury and jeopardize your season?

Yes i'm in a university club d3 hockey but it extremely boring and non-competitive. No one on the team beside a select few of us care about hockey. They are only there for the booze after. It gets extremely boring scoring your like 4th goal of the game (not bragging, thats just how it is) and blowing teams out like 10-3. We play teams like LSU and FSU which surprisingly enough aren't hockey powerhouses. Even when good teams like Bama and Arkansas ask to play us most of the team is like hahaha ****** that there's an awesome frat party this weekend. Our open hockey (minnesota) is more competitive than the league down there.
I'm more looking into sphl tryouts now to lower the bar and increase my slim chances of making it.
Are you planning on staying in school? Or are you leaving school?
i'll cross that bridge when it comes. unsure at the moment. are sphl/chl/echl athletes able to attend school while playing. i know some hold second jobs but its easier to work job hours than school hours around a hockey schedule

You may be able to take some classes, but when you are in those leagues, don't bank on staying in the same town for the whole season. High turnover in SPHL. Teams usually practice during the day (morning or early afternoon), workout after, then rest of day is free.
Since you only have ACHA D3 experience, teams are going to look at players who have played against tougher opposition. Not trying to put you down, but that is a reality of it. Have a hard time finding a player on a pro roster with ACHA D1 let alone ACHA D3 experience.
Also, your best bet is attending a camp that has a lot of exposure, like Elmira's and now Green Mountain's. Better chance of a team inviting you training camp.
Good luck! I have done a couple free agent camps, so if you need any advice don't be afraid to ask.
