Weird salary structure. 3.25 to 2.25 to 2.5? Why is year 2 cheaper than year 3? Not that it's a significant amount.
Yeah that is odd
But I guess at the end of the day Crawford wanted security of longterm deal. Cant blame him given his years spent in Norfolk/Rockford waiting. Then when he finally had a great camp and was set for a roster spot the Hawks went with Niemi because he was not waiver exempt and they didn't want to lose him
A $2.6 mil cap hit isn't going to ever really bite a team in the butt. Lots of teams have guys making that much that don't contribute a lot to the team.
Not knocking the contract or the player but a 2.6 cap hit can bite you pretty hard when it's your starter not contributing. Wasn't Crawford a RFA as well. I figured he would sign for a little less then Howard as Howard was in his second year as a starter and an UFA. Overall I thing it is a good deal and only helps to solidify the goaltending position for you guys.
Hawks have a good one for a long time. His technique is sound. He's smart positionally and get this: he doesn't drop to butterfly at the sight of an opponent nearing the blueline!
This is a good deal and next season Hawks fans will be thankful for the cap hit because he'll be performing at Niemi's level (if not higher).
