I wonder what the cap hit is. Could be a good signing or possibly an overpayment for a bottom-6 forward, especially since it's 3 years on a one-way deal.

Don't like this.

Give him a one year, two way.

You have basically just handed him a job. No likey.

Also, could the contract guys explain to me what one way really is. Does it just involve salary, or does it also have to do with waiver eligibility?

Really stupid.

A sample of less than half a season earned him 3 years 1 way.

Really ****ing dumb.

Nothing to do with waivers (ala NHL11)

One way means he earns the same monies whether he plays in Ottawa or Bingo.

Very nice! You guy worrying about him slacking off don't know his character at all, one of the hardest, smartest young players we have in this organization. I love it!

Not a big fan of the length, but worst comes we just put him on waivers and let some other team grab him, or his contract gets buried in the AHL.

Just curious what the cap hit will be.

Nice, i would prefer a 2 year two way but 3 years could be great if he plays like he did.

Melnyk has deep pockets...Other teams will be hesitant to take him off waivers with the one-way contract..Sens management loved what they saw in this kid. Congrats to him.

No one has questioned his character at all. I think people are just concerned whether he truly has the ability to be a full-time NHLer even in a bottom-6 role. If not, then that's three years on the books for the Sens if Greening doesn't get claimed on waivers by another team. While the money will likely be low, it still an awful lot of years for a guy who played 1/4 of a season.

Being from St John's I'm extremely biased but I love this deal, he won't be making much so this no way it will be an overpayment (we have cap space anyways). Happy to know he has a roster spot and wont be going back and forth between Ottawa and Bingo.

I 100% guarantee he does. He's worked his arse off making it this far through 4 years of NCAA hockey, starting on the 4th line in Bingo, then in Ottawa.

Maybe it's because I'm a big, big fan of this kid, but I feel this is as safe as they come.

I would also feel safe in 3 year terms for Z.Smith, Bobby B and Erik Condra. These guys have earned their shot, they're not gonna waste the opportunity (IMO).

Goodbye Zach Smith and Colin Greening.

Please leave a Trophy for us, when you leave to go up north.

The problem with long-term deals on bottom-6 players is that they take up roster spots which could be used on younger, more talented players. Of course, the Sens don't have a lot of young, talented forwards in the system right now, but that could change after this draft.

Odd signing. I don't think we're going to score very much next season...

Yeah...I like Greening but too much generosity with these contracts.
Two-way deal, shorter term much better for these kids.
