I'll be pissed if they're not the jets,

Ill also be pissed if they don't keep their jerseys, or if rbk completely ruins them.

I like the Jackets and that would be great for them I'd think, but in all serious with Detroit in the mix, our beloved commissioner would never go out of his way to help out Columbus. Another possibility is just Nashville southeast and Winnipeg in Central. I really hope that doesnt happen.

Can they be called the jets?
I remember reading that when the Nordiques moved to Colorado, Colorado retained the rights to "Nordiques" and associated logos etc. Would Phoenix still retainf the rights to the "Jets?"

Not sure if the rights to the name was involved in the deal that sent them to Phoenix. I know Colorado owns the rights to Nordiques and they still make money off selling their merchandise.

Well RBK did a pretty good job at giving Washington the old Jets colors, so hopefully they can work their magic once again. Although it will probably be hard to make it much different than the Caps.

I heard that they don't want to use the jets name not sure why but I hope they come up with something cool if they don't.

How long does it take HF to make a new winnepeg thread? I'm pumped for that!
Hopefully the second after it's official.

Wouldn't mind them bringing the Moose identity to the NHL if they don't bring back the Jets identity.

I will still call them the Jets. If everyone just calls them the Jets, they will be the Jets. Henceforth, any lettering that is spelled like this: "M-O-O-S-E" will be be pronounced as Jets.

keep all jets/relocation talk here. It seems close enough that it warrants discussion.

I for one wont buy it until i see the home opener.

This is... a half truth? It's true, but it needs an asterisk.

Colorado have the licensing rights to the Nordiques name & logo and can make money off of it, but the NHL own the intellectual property rights, and have full rights to revoke the name, logo and team colors at a moment's notice. It was a condition of the team leaving Quebec, so that the league could have control over it's branding and "history".

It's the same for every team relocation (Winnipeg-to-Phoenix, etc...) EXCEPT for Hartford Whalers, which all logos, names, everything is still 100% owned by Peter Karmanos (the current Hurricanes owner).

I hope the sale goes through. It's obvious that hockey won't work in Atlanta and Winnipeg should never had lost the Jets.

If the deal happens, I think Winnipeg would be moved back to the Northwest Division to play with its former, traditional rivals and, thus, bringing back most of the old Smythe Division - Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, and Winnipeg. I think Colorado would be the other team.

Nashville IMO makes the most sense to move to the SE Division, given its proximity to Florida and Carolina (TB, Florida, Washington, Carolina, and Nashville).

In this scenario, Minnesota would move to the Central Division (Detroit, Chicago, St. Louis, Columbus, and Minnesota).

It isn't done but is likely very close to being done.

They will not be called the Jets and will most likely be called the Manitoba ???. Currently rumours are suggesting either Manitoba Moose or Manitoba Falcons.

If not the Jets, Moose is the only other acceptable option IMO.

New second favourite team, yay. Can't wait to see a game at the MTS.

Why would the new team get to use Manitoba in its name? no other team in the league has the name of their province/state I don't think?

Btw Sportcentre and the NHL site are now showing the deal may infact be done.
