An agreement to sell the National Hockey League’s Atlanta Thrashers to a Winnipeg group which plans to relocate the franchise to the Manitoba capital is done.

Sources confirmed tonight that preparations are being made for an announcement Tuesday, confirming the sale and transfer of the Thrashers to True North Sports and Entertainment, which owns and operates the Manitoba Moose of the American Hockey League and the MTS Centre arena, which would become the NHL team’s new home.
Many callers, including reputable sources, are calling Sports Radio out of 1290 are saying it's all but done and we're waiting for an official announcement.

There's even a story on NHL.com about a report that the Thrashers are relocating.

Geographically speaking, Winnipeg to the NW, Nashville to the SE, and Minnesota to the Central makes sense.

I'd imagine that Dallas would probably move to the Central with Minnesota moving to the Northwest.

Winnipeg is closer to most of the teams in the Northwest Division than Minnesota is. Nashville is closer to the Southeast Division than any team in the Western Conference except Dallas maybe. No other team would replace Dallas in the Pacific Division that would make sense. Nashville going to the Southeast, which is logical, puts Minnesota in the Central Division, also logical.

Oh wow, I messed that up.

I still think Dallas would be a better fit in the Central though. Not sure what the implications of that would be though...

So, you're saying Nashville to the Southeast, Winnipeg to the Northwest, Dallas to the Central, and Colorado to the Pacific.

Nashville to the Southeast, Winnipeg to the Northwest, and Minnesota to the Central is the way to go.

Because Dallas in the Pacific makes no sense and Minnesota in the Northwest at least is sensible.

Because Dallas is a Central team forced to play in division with entire West coast (And Coyotes)

They dont belong in Pacific

Easiest/Smartest scenario IMO that impacts the division balance in least

Preds to SE
Stars to Cen
Win to NW
Avs to Pac

Dallas in the Central Division makes no sense.

It'd be like the Houston Astros in the NL Central. I find it stupid as a Cubs fan.

-NSH to SE
-WIN to NW
-MIN to Central

That makes sense. It's less relocation and works better geographically.

Houston and Dallas are in Central time zone ,, How does it make no sense?

Dallas in Pacific makes no damn sense

I could see maybe Columbus going to the Southeast instead of Nashville, too.

Dallas to SE makes no sense as it adds far more travel then is needed for teams in East (East owners would oppose it on costs alone) + it would kill every rivalry the Stars have ever had

Screw the Wild ,, They aren't the Northstars

They can rot in the NW

Agreed.

Looking at the Central, and only considering the Central... yeah Minnesota makes the most sense.

However realignment needs to consider all teams and having Dallas in the Pacific makes no sense for them.

Like I said, Minnesota in the Northwest is at least sensible... I don't see any reason for Dallas to stay in the Pacific.

I didn't think DAL to the SE through.

"Dallas and Washington will faceoff later for a division matchup."

I could see Columbus or Nashville to the SE, Winnipeg to the NW, Minnesota to the Central or Colorado to the Pacific, Dallas to the Central, Columbus or Nashville to the SE, and Winnipeg to the NW. Either one works. It's whatever one you prefer.

It depends if the NHL would like 3 or 4 teams to change divisions. In the end, it's their call. Maybe they feel the change of divisions by an extra team is more beneficial to them and for other teams in the divisions.

I'm starting to lean toward this. You guys have me convinced.

I wonder if Columbus could go to the Southeast Division considering they're on Eastern time and Nashville isn't.

I think what would define a team's division in CST or EST zones would be travel time/costs instead of time starts.

Going from East to West would mean games start much later and probably less viewers.

A 7 PM start on the east coast is only a 6 PM start here in CST... so I don't think switching Columbus to SE over Nashville would have too much incentive.

I do see your point though and I could see the concern for teams playing against Nashville in Nashville.

Dallas even having a team in the first place makes no sense.

I agree with Cullksinikers on this one. And I'll add that they should force the Wild to change to the Northstars. Hell they can even bring Dino Ciccarelli back as an ambassador for them. Let's stir up some old hate

North Stars didn't draw that well in Minnesota truthfully (Sure the Met center was dump) and the Stars have been successful

As for Wild I am sorry I just dont see it. I wont ever care for them IMO and trying to force rivalry with them is stupid

At least the Stars carried on in Central for several years after moving to Dallas so we had a little history with them

There isn't much they can do, they're aren't any teams in the center of the country. Texas Rangers survive and the Stars can to.

Minne to the central, Winni to the NW, and Rinne to the SE, lol.
