Given the number of financially sick teams now, I don't know that expansion would be more likely than contraction. There are only so many markets you can try to tap.

There's a bit of a misconception about financially sick teams. Florida is in the red on paper, but because of how their arena deal works, they're actually profitable or at least even (in EBITDA terms). That's with the poor showing they've made on the ice in previous years. Columbus is suffering, but still at least treading water. The city is highly invested in them, and will likely help with any issues which may arise. Dallas's troubles were all related to their previous owner's financial misdeeds. With the new money running the team, they should be problem free. Nashville and Carolina are both doing well. Phoenix is really the only problem child, though Anaheim has some problems.

The fact is, there's more places that could support teams than there are teams. Expansion might not be terribly likely in the next 5 years, but it's far more likely than contraction. Barring some sort of disaster, there's almost zero chance for contraction in the next decade.

I don't see much appetite for expansion yet. Things are going well, but there is still a crisis in Phoenix. Teams aren't going to want to compete against two more teams for free agents, playoff spots, and draft picks. That's why there's a huge expansion fee. Just don't see it for a long time.

Wait what? Holy ****, youre right. The Wild, Jack---s, To Catch a Predators, and the former Bad Skateboarding Terms now Aerospace Disasters are all in the same division.

Battle of the Newbies for dominance? Thats a fight I think we can win.

I believe someone brought up that point but don't feel like looking back.

A little late to the party, but I'm a Nashville fan coming in to stay how much I like the new re-alignment. Should be fun having you guys in the same conference.

Agreed. Love watching Nashville play. Hope Weber stays there and doesn't go to Detroit

Also love that Wild Nashville games are so high scoring usually...in the Wild favor!

Hawks fan here...

Have to admit I still have a little soft spot in my heart for the Wild after they helped the Hawks get into the playoffs last season...but that must all change tonight. Here's to a good game tonight and a great rivalry for years to come. Welcome back to the "Norris", should be fun.

Go Hawks!

hey, all we need to spark the kindling is a controversial boarding call late in the third of a close game!

****... now I'm all conflicted. I want the Wild to win, and I want Chiggy to lose, and I want the Wild to gain on the Hawks in the WC standings... but I really don't want to do anything that would make Detroit happy.

Don't much care for Calgary and Edmonton. I guess this goes back to the days and rivalries of Jets 1.0. Vancouver....well what can you say? I would far rather re-kindle the rivalries with Minnesota, Chicago, Detroit, St-Louis.....just like the days of the old Norris Div.

Is it just me but ever sense the announced the realignment as soon as we started playing new Norris/Central /Division/Conference whatever teams its been Game on from the start. I wake up game day (work 3rd shift) at around 3pm ish start looking online watching NHL network, yell at the screen for a bit. Throw on my Dino jersey (Yea never got over it)
grab dinner then stake the claim on the big screen with the wife, kids, the wolf, and the stupid cat .
Its kinda the same energy level as when i was a High school kid. The crazy thing is its just like someone flipped a switch all of a sudden and its old school hockey time again.

Wow, I propose the name of the Wild's new conference next season be the Bloodbath Conference. 6 of the top 7 point totals in today's W.C. standings.

Chi. 46
Min. 45
St.L. 42
Det. 41
Van. 40
Nsh. 38
Dal. 37
SJ 37

Poor BJs look like road kill+ in that conference.

With the way it's going to be set up, one bad draft or roster mistake, and you can find yourself sitting at the bottom for quite a while.
