If ATL had NSH's management (caring and knowledgeable); they would have done much better in ATL.

They'd only need to be caring to start. The knowledge would come.

If you think about it, putting NSH in the SE would strength the SE division in terms of attendance and competitiveness. CBJ does not really bring either to the table (it's a slowly sinking ship too).

Winnipeg is staying in the East for this year.

Quote:
For those asking, as we reported a few weeks ago, re-alignment will wait another year. Winnipeg will play in East next season
So do they get moved to the Southeast or will there be a change in divisions in the East?

I'd just move Florida to their own little division.

I'm really curious about the future of the Moose.

Halifax Mooseheads?

'Premier of Manitoba' sounds like a fake title.

That is more of a problem for them than for the other 4 teams. We will only need to go to Winnipeg 3 times. Although that is a bit of an issue if any Home and Home games are scheduled. They will have 12 away games in the SE. Most teams on the road play FLA then TB or vice versa (may eliminate a trip or two) but division opponents... not always.

It's sort of cool to be in the same division as Winnipeg, even if it's only for a year.

At least Atlanta fans had some time to process the loss. The shock is much less than it was when it was first (incorrectly) reported.

It does fit with the conspiracy that Bettman wants the Bruins to win the cup. Announce the day before the final begins that Vancouver gets an old rival back (and loses their AHL affiliate)? It adds a ton of distraction to the Canucks management (which would be reflected by the players) and schisms the western Canada fanbase.

Maybe the name should be the Winnipeg Sherman's . A name still cursed in much of the South.

I guess this means we're opening in Winnipeg next season since we've opened our season to Atlanta the past few seasons. Doubt they make the Jets first game an away game either..

They won't do H&H with Winnipeg and SE Division teams. Part of the reason they wanted something done now was so they could get cracking on the schedule so it wouldn't be released without delay.

Having to go to Winnipeg is kinda crappy. But at least the other division teams will have to do it as well. Hopefully they can swing it in a road trip with other western teams in the vicinity.

Winnipeg will eventually move to the Northwest, Colorado to the Central, Detroit to the Northeast, Boston to the Atlantic and Philadelphia to the Southeast.

Unfortunately, the southeast will become one of the toughest divisions in the league...

Interesting to see what happens here because if you look at the last 10 years, all the teams that had never won a cup, won that year. The Anaheim vs. Ottawa series would be the only toss up because both had never won. I'd say Vancouver gets this one and Boston will get it within the next 2 years. I don't believe the Bruins were selected to win the cup nut moreso a ratings boost for the finals. $$$$$$$

I thought about Nashville or Columbus moving to the Southeast, Winnipeg to the Northwest, and Colorado to the Central. It doesn't help that Colorado and Dallas are isolated from everyone else. Now that you mention it though, it definitely makes more sense to not break up all the rivalries. Detroit apparently has the rights to be the first team moved to the East though from what I've been hearing.

If DET goes to the East, the Western conference is a shell of itself. Plus, the NHL would not want to tear up the DET-CHI rivalry.
