islanders 5th pick +bailey

With the new arena vote upcoming,an the isles inability to attract top notch free agents.i sincerely believe the isles will try to generate some positive press about the team.
What better way to do this than to pick up a NAME player. What would a package like this bring back?
i really dont think they would be looking for salary dumps that would throw off the payscale drastically either.

That's a good package. Jason Spezza could probably be had for those assets.

The 5th overall pick and Bailey is worth...the 6th overall pick

they throw in a 2nd or prospect and i would think about it. I am not very high in Bailey but I am very high on Couturier and still would draft him #1 but im in the minority. I think the oil would have to trade with Fla or NJ to get him though I don't think he slips past those 2 teams. I also don't think either of those 2 teams are trading their picks so the point is moot.

spezza would be a very interesting player to me as long as he wouldnt mind playin second fiddle to tavares.
that would be an interesting powerplay tho.tavares' goal totals could really skyrocket from his acquisition

Indeed, what is laughable about 5th overall + Bailey for Spezza?

I dont get why a lot of Islander fans are looking to ship off Bailey. His value is the lowest its ever been. I know being 21 is like 40 here on HFBoards but the best move for him and the organization is to stay here and try to improve into the player he was at the beginning of the season before he got hurt.

The Oilers will not move 1st overall (RNH) for 5th and Bailey.
We have our own Bailey in Gagner and whoever we draft at 5 won't be as good a player as RNH.

I would imagine the Islanders can net a pretty good player for that package. Bogosian+a mid-range prospect/2nd round pick, if I were to guess.

Something pretty good, but likely not #1 or Spezza. Not sure who would be interested.

garth will not trade josh bailey. he was garths first draft pick after he was given "total controll" of the islanders. he will hold onto him like a mother tiger holding her first born cub.

Not even close. Hemsky's value is extremely low right now with all of his injuries, and he only has one year left on his contract until he is a UFA. Bailey and Gagner are very similar players. I don't see anything that the Isles would want from Edmonton outside of the big 3 young guns, and there is no reason for edmonton to trade any of them.

Bailey + 5th are both solid kind of assets in a rebuild, trading either makes little sense for the isle.

Basically it's Hemsky+31st (Jenner/Klefbom/Jaskin) for Huberdeau/Hamilton/Strome

Don't know if either team would do it.

From the Oilers perspective, players available at 31 might end up as good as the one they pick at No.5. They do need some veterans, so losing Hemsky for futures will hurt the re-build.

NYI may be wary of Hemsky's injury history and the fact that he's on the final year of his contract.

burnzy trading for Yashin/Peca didn't get a new arena for Wang 10/11 yrs ago.
Trading for Smyth didn't lead to a new arena deal.
Drafting Tavares excited the diehards, but didn't lead to a new arena.

The isles are finally seeing movement on the arena issue because Wang's lease is expiring in 2015 and the County Exec. doesn't want to lose them.

Strang says Snow was looking to move his 2010 lottery pick, trying to pick up a 20-22 yr old potential stud, hoping to speed up his rebuild.I could see him shopping this yr's 1st,hoping to land that high end young.

However, don't think it will be to generate positive news for the arena.I think it'll be to speed up his rebuild. That 20-22 yr old, will be further along in his development then the 2011 18 yr old he could draft.

With Tavares,Okposo and Streit all due new deals between this summer and next,I can't see the isles trading for a $7m per yr player.

Isles would rather pay Bailey $800,000-$900,000 and that 5th overall the rookie max+bonuses.

When did the isles re-hire Milbury. That's brutal.Isles don't even give up the 5th alone for that.

1.With Tavares,Neilsen and Bailey down the middle.Isles do not want the smallish, nonphysical Gagner.

2.What do the rebuilding isles, want with 1 yr of the oft injured Hemsky?

3.Scouts are saying picks 20-50 are basically interchangable.Zero interest in moving from 5th overall to 31st.

How about offering ONE thing the NYI actually want?Just one?

Bailey + 5th is definitely worth the #1 or spezza, but I don't think the oil do it, and I don't think the sens are willing to go into a full-on rebuild and trade spezza.

How about Heatly for Bailey and the 5th? San Jose gets cap relief and could use the money to bring in another much needed offensive dman and Bailey could center the 3rd line.

NYI get a proven scoring winger that should have been an Islander years ago had Milbury not screwed up and moved Luongo and drafted diPietro.

I'm not opposed to trading either Bailey or the 5th overall. But I want established players at this point, and if the Isles are trading them both in a package.... want a pretty good established player 30 or under.
