would Chicago accept a 2nd round pick for Brouwer? Because if a team really want him they could just offer sheet Brouwer @ 2nd round compo and I doubt Chicago would match. Brouwer to Montreal for Mont's #2?

True, but he'd be your first line centre. I'm not trying to troll, or flame, or anything but it is true

Montréal doesn't have a 2nd.

3rd and a prospect probably.

I'd be fine with a 2nd for Brouwer, but would like it to be in the top half of the 2nd round. Somewhere in the top 45 picks of the draft.

Well, that's likely what would happen. We can't afford to pay Brouwer much more than he already makes if he's going to play on the 4th line.

I like him as a player, I really do. I felt like I stood up for him numerous times when others were bashing him... but I just don't see him fitting anywhere inside our top 9 going forward, especially at 1.5+ which I'd imagine he'd ask for.

With that space, we could spend it on a physical #5/#6 defenseman and the space from letting Kopecky could go towards signing a good 4th liner like Rupp.

A couple of comparisons …..

The Flames just re-signed Curtis Glencross to a four-year, $10.2 million contract with a $2.55 million cap-hit and a no-movement clause.

Curtis Glencross last two years : 39 goals 37 assists 76 points
Troy Brouwer last two years….: 39 goals 37 assists 76 points

Brian Bickell – Drafted 2nd-round, 2004
Troy Brouwer – Drafted 7th-round 2004

I mention the 2nd comparison because Bickell is sometimes thought of as some young up and comer while Brouwer is not mentioned as such.

I like Brouwer and I think he'd be a 25-20-45 physical complement on a scoring line, but it doesn't look like it will happen in Chicago under Quenneville. If the 'Hawks trade him for a 2nd-rounder, I hope they hold out for a 2012 pick instead of 2011.

not quite the same Glencross took Less then he would have gotten on the open market he would have got 3+ as a UFA.

Pouliot had almost similar numbers playing 3rd and 4th line minutes. Desharnais would of been a 40 point player if he played the full season and not half. Both of which are probably going to sign less together than for what Brouwer wants for a full contract alone.

I would think Brouwer would look good on a line with Cammalleri and Plekanec and give them a right handed shot.

I would be interested in acquiring both Kopecky and Brouwers rights for Pouliot a pick and possibly a prospect.

We would have a good lineup and would not have to dip into free agency and get into biddings wars if everything went smoothly.

Hawks would have no interest in Ericsson and I don't think the Hawks would want to pay Hudler ~3 mil unless he's getting top 6 time... and I'm not sure he would.

If the Hawks get rid of Brouwer, they need grit and size coming back.

Grabovski >>>>>>>>>>>>>> Desharnais, lame joke.

Also, what about Boston's 2012 2nd rounder from the Leafs, and maybe an okay prospect like Juraj Mikus?

Technically we don't have Boston's 2012 2nd rounder yet, but if the Bruins go to the SCF, or re-sign Kaberle (2 conditions in the trade which would result in the Leafs getting the 2012 2nd round pick from Boston), we'll get it, and both of those scenarios seem likely. Well maybe not so much the second one, but considering what Chiarelli gave up to get Kaberle I don't think he'd let him go for nothing that fast.

Jeff Schultz for Troy Brouwer. Better than a 5/6, not quite as cheap, but still affordable and a terrific PKer.

Bozak would be perfect for what the Hawks need. A decent #3 center with offensive potential to play a top six role in the likely event that Bolland misses some time. Fax her over boys, the Bowman's and Burke seem to get along.

I'd do it.

Would the Hawks like Steckel and a pick/bottom-tier prospect?

I'd take him in Columbus in a package that includes Campbell. Naturally the sources of "size" in question would be Commodore and Huselius, but still.

(Well, maybe not Huselius. But you get the idea.)

I would do it but expect to get flak from the "Hawks are soft and weak" crowd of Hawk fans

Bozak has decent potential when not viewed as a #1 C

How about a combination of Pouliot (capable scoring winger with questionable defense)and one of Pyatt (PK wizard and defensive specialist forward you can pay league minimum) or Carle (NHL ready right-handed PMD that's lost in the numbers game in Montreal. Heck, you could take all 3. These are all servicible and cheap players that Montreal's depth make expendible for a young good top-9 forward with size.
