the challenge for van if thorton doesnt play or is hobbled in the next game....
is that it wakes up the rest of the sharks to pick up the slack
and the sharks have their backs against the wall.......we will need our best game to close out the series
pavelski, wellwood, and especially heatley and setoguchi have been hard to spot thus far, though i did like seto's game in the sharks win. clowe, couture, and marleau cannot alone carry the offense.
i'm expecting a whale of a game from boyle.
did anyone else notice when mclellan threw out the line of heatley-wellwood-setoguchi? whole bundle of fail right there.
I didn't think that White or Wallin and co would sustain their scoring in this series too, maybe bring Demers in as a 7th dman? He's no specialist there either, Sharks are another team that can use that offensive dman to help out Boyle.
Btw, I've noticed Murray jump into the play a lot more as in pinch and use his body to get the puck deep, I'd like to see him do a bit more but I don't know if he has the hockey IQ to be a big help on the PP. He's pretty composed at passing in his own zone though so why not.
And speaking of dmen, I'd like to see Ballard get a bit more involved in the offense and use his speed, he's shown it a couple times. Edler can be better too, I thought he was better in last year's playoffs and in the Chicago series but he does have the back injury from earlier.
Demers is hurt. That's why he's not in the lineup. Demers is the team's #2 PMD. Having Huskins in the lineup shows just how badly they miss Demers. I'd say this series would be a lot different if Demers was healthy enough to play but it's the playoffs and injuries happen.
But while he didn't talk with the media after the game, Thornton later wrote in a text message that he expects to be in the lineup Tuesday. "100 percent," Thornton texted in response to the question of whether or not he expected to play. "It's playoffs, got to play through everything."
The injury appeared to be Thornton's right shoulder, and that's the top arm on his stick as he is left handed. Centremen have popped their shoulders out on faceoffs to highlight the potential stress and pain, so don't be surprised if he does play and but does not take draws.
p.s.
I like the SJ Mercury News' reporters, going through the rounds you find all these great level headed reporters. I'm forgetting the one from the Nashville Tenessean, but I do remember Adam Jahns of the Chicago Tribune from the past several years.

Yup, just like it would be different if the Canucks had Ehrhoff, Malhotra, Samuelsson, and Rome.
With 6 losses in their past 8 games the Sharks are slumping at the worst possible time. It's mind-boggling really, 'cause when they're 'on' IMO they have the best all-round group of forwards in the league.
one thing i have noticed in all these sharks nucks threads it seems to be nucks fans fighting with every other team's fans in the league... most shark fans seem to be pretty level headed right now and realize the sharks are their own worst enemy right now...
So, business as usual then. So far I must admit that 99% of Chicago, Nashville and San Jose fans have set an example I wish some of our younger brethren would follow.

Ballard's been criminally underused this year, and not just in the playoffs. It would make sense if he's been nursing an injury since his hip surgery, but you'd think it'd have come up. Edler can play better, but he's still plagued by inconsistent play. Recovering from back surgery doesn't cause you to lose the puck in your skates or bat it into your own net.

Bolduc's managed to do that a couple of times. Blew me away how he managed to hurt himself without really doing much. His ill-advised fight with John Scott...well, that was rather a forgone conclusion.
And man is SJ in deep dog-do if Thornton isn't good to go next game. He's easily been their best player this series. "No-show Joe" hasn't been around lately. He's stepped up big time, I'll give him that.
Oh, and Sharks fans? Brendan Morrison's father in-law is convinced Heatley's playing hurt. I heard about it a few times at the bar during game 3.

He must have been injured the entire regular season, because this is how he has been playing for a long time. His skill has digressed a ton since joining the Sharks. He has shown flashes but never anything consistent.

You're right they do. Still do even down 3-1 but their d is not near good enough. I mean all I heard before this series started was Boyle this boyle that murry's going to run kesler... The sharks D is simply not good enough.
Again all I read on this board by sharks fans was how with ehrhoff out the canucks wouldn't be able to move the puck effectively! Well tanev and Ballard came in and the Canucks did not miss a beat.
On the plus side the sharks finally out scored the Canucks in the third period.

I am not surprised. The physicality of West Coast hockey puts too much damage on Heater. I am sure he is nursing some kind of injury right now. He is getting slower and slower each year. Maybe if he spent the entire summer gaining twenty pounds of muscle, while working on power skating .... well, come on, we know that aint happening.
To be fair the guy who sings the Star Spangled Banner for Vancouver butchers it as well.
I personally don't mind him. I hate the fat guy in Vancouver who sings the Canadian anthem. That's fine if you don't like him. But he wasn't nearly as bad as the one in San Jose today. That was pathetic.
How does the Vancouver guy butcher it exactly? Seems to be fine from i've seen.

I'm talking about the older grey haired guy, heard him do the star spangled banner during the Chicago series. He finished the anthem in what seemed like 10 seconds. It was honestly the fastest rendition of the anthem I've ever heard.

whereas det shut them down on their pp,but had trouble stopping them eventrength
during this streak........van has shut them down evenstrength but had trouble shorthanded.
clearly van three solid pairing are giving very little room out there evenstrength

Yep you're right Rich Loney is the most lacklusters anthem singer I've ever seen/heard

His name is Richard Loney and he's probably too old to be singing national anthems

Yeah I know. He wasn't as bad as the guy in San Jose at least. He was the polar opposite and took way too long.

That was Richard Loney. He did the anthems here for decades until Marc Donnelly (the fat guy) took over a few years ago. Never heard any complaints about him until the Chicago series. The guy SJ had today...uh, yeah, no thanks.
And Heatley...hmm. Really surprised to see how he's gone. Last year, the Marleau--Thornton--Heatley line was slotted into the Olympic team as is, that's how good it was. Man, what's happened to those guys (well, mainly Heatley)? Marleau's taken heat but stepped up, Thornton's been busting his ass to lose his previous rep, but the other guy's still out there.
