I'm not interested in MacArthur. Not at all.

Hell ****ing No

I'd rather overpay for a 60 point, 2nd line winger than a 20 point, 3rd line winger.

If we are trading Mac's rights, I'd rather package them with something else for something better.

Also, Armstrong already fills the 'Clarkson' role, so it doesn't satisfy a need

Huh? Bouwmeester was set to become a UFA. Parise is a RFA. It's two completely different scenarios.

Clarkson is more than a 20 point third liner. But I still agree that he is redundant for the Leafs.

No thanks. We have Armstrong to bring what Clarkson does, and MacArthur would be more valuable to this team.

I don't think people realize how little rights are really worth.

No doubt Clarkson had a bad year, but so did the rest of the team for the most part. He did pick it up in the latter part of the season and looked very good with the two young Swedes.

Lou will give him another year to redeem himself. As for Parise, he's RFA, if worse come to worse, Lou gives Lombardi a call and tries to work a deal around Schenn and a defensemen for Zach. Devs and Leafs seem to be bad trade partners.

Clarkson + 2nd

for

Macarthur

That would be fair, but I still don't think Leafs fans would do it.

Wow...seems like just yesterday where everybody and their mother was obsessed with Clarkson...what happened to hi-Just checked his stats...18 points in 82 games. Any Devils fans care to say what happened?

NJ throws in a 2nd or 3rd round pick and I'm happy. It's only MacAuthur's rights, plus soon enough Kadri will deserve 2nd line responsibilities.

We have our 3rd line physical RW already in Armstrong, this makes no sense for the Leafs.

I really doubt that the Leafs would make this kind of deal. Clarkson is hardly an exciting return for MacArthur who just came off of a big year in which he showed great chemistry with Kulimen and Grabovski. Toronto should be and probably is looking into resigning this guy for at least another season or three.

For this kind of deal to happen, New Jersey would have to add or MacArthur would have to be demanding more than Burke thinks he is worth and one of our young guns such as Kadri would have to show signs of being able to fill in for the lost offense.

The Leafs get another much needed gritty agitator with offensive upside to play with Armstrong. New Jersey gets the better offensive player while making similar money to Clarkson. MacArthur would slot nicely into Rolston's place once he calls it quits or isn't resigned.
This proposal seems rather pointless to me from both teams' perspective.

Toronto doesn't need Clarkson as they have Armstrong and others who can fill that role; New Jersey does because they have very little grit as it is and can't afford to lose it. Toronto does however need MacArthur for his offensive skills and chemistry wilth Kulemin and Grabovski much more than another overpaid (and fairly redundant) third-liner.

Ultimately, neither team does this.

Which is why no one wants to do this trade. If a 20 point 3rd liner is all that his rights can return, then it's dumb to trade him...especially since it sounds like both sides want to get a contract done.

So then Kessel for Parise should be fine. Since : "when you trade for a players rights it doesn't guarantee that the player will agree to a new contact. This is why you don't get full value for rights to a player."

Armstrong was basically the only forward who played decent minutes that brought an intimidating physical presence (maybe Kulemin but not in the same way). Because of this he was the main target on a nightly basis and was pretty banged up for most of the year. He could definitely use some help and they would be a perfect match as a physical/offensive pair.

I wouldn't worry about giving up the top six offense, there's no chance that Burke doesn't address this deficiency in the summer. Burke stated he wants to get bigger and tougher, so I could see him doing a deal such as this.
I never agree with you on these boards. . . this post is no exeption. Q: Do you even watch hockey?
