Simon Gagne

I was just wondering what everyone thinks Gagne's next contract will look like. For Tampa fans, do you all think he'll be resigned? He started the season off pretty poorly but he came alive during the stretch and has played well in the playoffs. He's a former 40 goal scorer and a great two-way player whose only in his early 30's, but he does have a ton of injury concerns. So what teams will be interested in him if he hits free agency and how much do you think he'll cost those teams?

3.0 Mil per year at most, he's potentially one concussion away from ending his career.

Every player is one concussion from ending their respective career.

It depend on the length of te contract !! If he sign a one year contract he will get between around 4m but if he sign a multi year contract it will be probably a 3.0m cap hit ! If I was a GM I would try to get him for 4 year 11.0million

I'd take him at 3M easily.

I'd defienietly love him back on the Flyers at 3 million, but I doubt he comes back at this point.

Is there any chance he resigns with Tampa?

If 3-3.5, 1-2 years is the asking price then I see the Habs getting interested as an upgrade to the winger depth.

I think 3 mil is too much. IO he is pretty much done considering his stat totals have been decreasing and were the exact same this year as they were last year. Hes a 40 point guy or less from now on in his career.

2.5mil - 4mill depending on the length

1-2 years cap hit of 3.4-4mill
2-4 years cap hit of 3.2-3.8mill
4-6years cap hit of 2.5-3.4mill

i wouldnt sign this guy for more than 2 years

I could see him being back here. Maybe 2 years, 2M-3M. If we have to stretch it to 3.5M I wouldn't argue against it.

I'd imagine they'll try to bring him back on a 1-2 year contract at about 2-2.75.

If I'm TB, I try to re-sign him, but don't even listen if he's demanding upward of $3M.

On the open market, he'd get the $3M.. but I dont think that the Lightning should invest that much in him.

I think that's sort of a ridiculous statement. While injuries are a concern, he's better than a 40 point player. Sure he's had 40 points the last two seasons, but he only played 58 and 63 games in those seasons and during the beginning of this year he was adjusting to a new team while recovering from injuries. He had 74 points during his last healthy year and has 11 points in 12 games and is +7. Given 2nd line minutes and 70+ games, Gagne should still be able to produce 25+ goals around 60+ points.

For Gagne, Montreal offers Weber and a conditional 3rd (where the 3rd transfers if Gagne signs), for the rights to Gagne and a conditional 2nd (where the 2nd transfers if Gagne doesn't sign)

So the trade would end up being
Weber and a 3rd for Gagne
or
Weber for a 2nd

It's my first post, and just a rough idea, so be gentle.

No thanks. I'd rather wait until July 1st and get him for free, and not give up a potentially great PP quarterback for essentially nothing.

I don't feel like we would be able to squeeze much more than a 2nd out of a team for Weber. Maybe a low 1st. But it's a 2nd in a draft where talent from the 20th pick to the 60th is pretty spread out. So I think that would be fair value for that reason.

We're not shopping Weber so we don't need to squeeze for him. If we get to a point where Weber can do us better by being traded we'll trade him, when his value is high. Right now he's cheap and effective so what's the rush? He'll still be good, and definitely better in 3 years(or even 1).

Anyone that pays a penny over 3.5 for him is crazy! I think 3 million is a tad high as well but he will get that because of his past. Its clear he still has the talent, but in a cap world you need to be careful on paying big money for injury prone guys. I think he signs a 2 year deal for around 3.25 - 3.5 million.
