I will definitely be YouTubing the Rafalski goal from game 4 of the 2000 Cup Finals when I get home tonight.

Enjoy the retirement. Solid career, especially from someone who went completely undrafted.

An amazing player for the Devils, I just glanced at his career stats and boy are they good. Looks like he wanted to finish off his career without a single minus season.

Later Raf

I liked him a lot and he was very underrated. That said, he should not have his number retired at least in this universe

Wow, although he is 38, this is still a shock for me, I thought he'd continue playing

One of my favorite Devils of all time, and guys I liked following after his Devils career

Class act, hope nothing but the best for him in his retirement......can't believe it, I remember seeing him play his rookie season, seems like yesterday

Just read the news. I love how information like this is always leaked.

Thanks for an awesome career as a Devil Raf. Wish you wouldve stayed here throughout.

I would love to see him join the Devils organization in some capacity. I was sad to see him go to Detroit, but never really mad. He got his wish to play for his hometown team and I can't fault that.

I'm sad to see Rafalski go, he was a great Devil in his time here. I wish him well in his future after hockey.

Of all the big name FA's we've lost over the years, Rafalski's definitely stung the most. Such a good puck-mover. We've missed that dimension ever since he left. He turned out a pretty darn good career for a guy who didn't even get drafted.

They've got Brendan Smith, their 2007 first rounder, poised to step in after a monster 09-10 season for U of Wiscy and a very impressive rookie campaign with Grand Rapids this past season.

But yeah, they'll probably bring someone in. Watch them sign Kaberle.

I think Kaberle or Markov could go to Detroit. Hell they could get an Ehrhoff and pair him with Kronwall as well.

I'm guessing the Wings will suck next season - noob goalie and two veteran dmen retiring. There's no way they will shrug off the loss of Raf+Liddy.

No kidding! Hopefully the Devils will have similar fortune in the future with undrafted talent.

Still, his leaving stung the most? Niedermayer leaving stung the most imo. Niedermayer was better at both ends of the ice than Rafalski, especially in the defensive zone.
