Logan Couture's Next Contract

Do you guys think that Wilson will be able to get him locked up like Grabner? Or will he go for a longer/shorter deal with more/less money?

3M per would be a great deal for the Sharks IMO. He might sign for it though as he seems like a guy who wants to be in SJ.

Couture will get more money than Grabner, but the length could be similar.

Still have to wait and see what he does next year, but if he improves to 65pts or better then there's no way he takes less than 4.5mil. Maybe closer to the Perry/Getzlaf 2nd contracts.

Well, since it'll only be his second contract, and he'll be 23 by then, I could see him either taking a 3 year deal at around 3.75 mil per, or a 4 year deal for 4-4.5 mil per. That 4th year would be a UFA year, meaning the price would go up a bit.

Similar to the Grabner deal, although he may get more just because he has higher offensive potential than Grabner.

Maybe 4 year $3.5 per

Couture's contract will depend on next season. If he has a Setoguchi-like season, they'll give him a short contract and make him prove himself for a real contract. It's too early to tell right now.

More than Grabner IMO. Younger, more complete player (IMO), more consistent play, an additional year of experience and a solid playoff resume will make him worth more. A bad year next year would drop him down, but if his performance is comparable to this year, he'll get a big raise.

I could see him getting 4M in his next contract.

Giroux would probably be the best comparable.

I'm gonna guess 3yrs @ 4mil per. If memory serves me correctly he hired Joe Thorntons brother to be his agent this year. With him as his agent well hopefully get him to stay at a "fair" market value or slight discount compaired to what he would get on the open market.

San Jose has a history of its young forwards getting short-term cheap contracts. Pavelski got 2 years 1.8, Clowe 1 year 1.6, and Setoguchi 1 year 1.8. Couture is the best of the bunch, but it wouldn't be shocking to see the team go for a one or two year deal at 2.2-2.6. That said, given how well he is playing, it also wouldn't be surprising for the team to replicate the deal given to Michalek (6x4.33) or something similar to Pavelski's third contract (4x4).

I'd really like to the see the Hawks sign him to an offersheet. Something like 14M over 3YRS. Enough where he is well worth the money but if SJ matches (and they will), it puts them in a bind.

we're not in the same cap bind, you'd have to offer something crazy like $5-6 MM.

DW will be ready for it, so i dont think he'll even give another team a chance to get his real prize. sign Setoguchi for $4+ MM, and you'll be stuck with another bad contract. sometimes you don't think straight when you're lookin for revenge..

Seto isn't much and we have plenty of wingers. Couture on the other hand, a young center, that's a different story. Whether we actually get him or not doesn't really matter, just so long as the Sharks pay a couple million more than they planned on.

So many people forget though that the player has to sign the offer sheet, not just be offered one. I'm not saying there isn't the potential for him to be nabbed, but at the same time the kid has said multiple times that he loves playing with this team.

And Hammer loves playing with the Hawks; he just loves it more at 3.5M vs. 2M. Everyone would love to play for the Hawks, so he signs for whatever contract he wants and gets to play for the Hawks or Sharks at his demanded price. Or he could just sign for 2M less and stay with the Sharks for sure. What would you do? I hope Stan is all over this if he ever hits RFA.

Someone post the "lol u mad?" pic. And it really wouldn't put us in a bind. Our cap situation is nothing like yours was last summer.

If the sharks offer him something like $4M a year you want Bowman to offer $2M more because of a grudge? Can you even afford him at 3 or 4? I'm sure every hawks fan is thrilled you're not GM.

I'd have to look at the compensation, but 6M is obviously too high for him. No, just tack on another 1M because of the grudge. If you don't think Stan or any other GM would do that in the case of a player like Couture, then I don't know what to tell you.

He'll get at least 3.5 mil a year, if not 4. That kid is a fantastic player, and a much more complete player than Grabner.
