You be the GM and make your picks

Was looking at the upcoming draft and saw a few possible scenarios happening. The NJD have usually been one of the teams that tend to make some off the board picks and have a recent history of trading down. NJD currently have the 4th overall pick. In my scenario they move the 4th overall to OTT for the 6th and 21st. They then send the 6th to TOR for the 25th,28th and 39th. The last move has them moving the 28th to NYI for the 34th and 50th.

So basically they trade the 4th for the 21st, 25th,34th,39th and 50th.
Do you do this if your NJD? And under this scenario who do you take with these picks?

Based on THN Draft preview you are looking at this deal being something like the following

Couturier for Puempel, Rakell, Morrow, Noesen and Russo.

Ottawa would never send the 6th and 21st just to move up to the 4th. It is not worth a 1st rounder to move up 2 spots. If a team has two 1sts in the 10-25 range, that would be a realistic offer, but not 2 1sts just to move 2 spots, from 4 to 6.

What about Montreal's 1st (17), 3rd rounder, and Kostitsyn for the 4th overall from NJD? You get a 1st, a roster player, and another 3rd. Let me know what you think.

Lol. Ottawa won't be trading both firsts to move up a measly two spots.

Sixth overall is worth more than the three Toronto picks. Toronto might get to 10th-13th with that package.

Why would the Devils give up an opportunity to take a near sure thing for a bunch of maybes? IMO the Devs take Couturier and are very happy with their 1-2 punch down the middle of great 2 way guys. Zajac has proven capable of 60+pt seasons and finishing top 10 in Selke voting, SC is projected to have that ability. Why would they give that up?

I see the NJ Dev's bucking that trend and try to move up with a trade with Colorado...
I see their wish list is
trading up for Larsson
picking Landeskog with the 4th pick
trading down a few spots if neither are available and picking Zibanejad (wouldn't surprise me if they just take him with the 4th)
the 3 Swedes IMO are their priority (depending on which scenario occurs)

no way will they just get quantity for the pick...

4 for 6/21 seems a bit optimistic from a Devils perspective. Using the Islanders 2008 Draft trade as a barometer, 4 for 6/35/65 would be more plausible. And realistically, it depends on how the Sens feel about who's available at #4 and whether they have a big gap between hypothetically Huberdeau/Couturier and the 'worst' case scenario of only having Strome/Hamilton/Murphy available at #6.

And on the flipside, I absolutely would not deal #6 for two late firsts and a high 2nd.

I know it's HF mentality that we can turn picks in the 25-40 range into above average NHLers, but history would say otherwise. I think all of our teams have had more average NHLers/career minor leaguers with those picks than finding a Corey Perry.

I actually could see Ottawa biting on this, only because its a 4-5 player draft with a big dropoff after that.

Yes as a Leaf fan .

Getting one of the big 4(or 8?) would be sweet.

Well as your aware LA did trade the 17th and 28th in 2008 for the 12th. Thats 5 spots for an extra 1st rd pick. Moving 4th to 6th is not only just a small move number wise but many say after the top 5 its a drop off

that would never happen

A 'almost sure-fire prospect' for guys in the late 1st + other rounds who rarely break into the NHL.

Lou would never do that. This is the first top 10 pick the Devils have had in 15 years.

Sounds like wishful thinking from a Leafs fan.
