They should get a guy like Malhotra. Wilson was stupid for letting him get away.

What do people think of that line-up? Personally, I think it's more effective. You're very solid on the back end and you don't give up a ton of offense. If you can lure a guy in like Reasoner for a fair price then Pavelski could move up and cover for the loss of a forward.
So...how about becoming our new GM?

I think they are in the same position as Vancouver last season, get better quality role players for bottom 6 and not just have a 7.5M sniper taking up that spot doing nothing at all and get some D other than Boyle, Murray and White.
Their 3rd line was fine until the Vancouver series. The 4th line was nowhere to be found until the last couple of games. If the Sharks can re-sign White for 3.5 mil and get Brewer at 4, they'd be set up well for next year.

Heatley is really handcuffing them.

If they can somehow force him to take power skating up in the summer he could turn his value around and become positive, but I just don't see the Sharks doing much with Heatley doing as poorly as he is right now.

I don't think they're in that bad a shape though: Vancouver had better depth but the Sharks were the better team in game 5, and barring that epic breakdown in game 4, deserved a better fate.

Niemi has proven to be a sound investment so that's a real positive going forward.

I understand why LA fans don't want to trade JJ for Heatley, it was just an idea as they have a lack of scoring talent.

The bottom line remains, this should be their recipe for success.

- Move a forward, if they can't move Heatley then move Marleau.
- Sign an effective checking line center with size so that Pavelski can replace the forward.
- Add 2 top 4 dmen, either through sign or trade. 1 has to be capable of top shutdown duties.
-Re-build the bottom 6 a bit. You need really hard working character guys.

Like I said in the GDT, San Jose is a few good moves away from taking this thing next year. They need to be bold in order to get it done, but the hardest part is behind them. They have the talent, they just need a couple more pieces to push them over the edge.

LOL I would be all over JMFJ for Heatley. We'd even take a short-term cap dump.

If we have $4 mil to spend on Brewer, I'd rather pay $0.5 mil more to get Error-hoff back.

The Sharks need to dump Heatley. He's not unproductive, but his $7.5 mil can be better spent on something else.

I'd be on board for bringing Ehrhoff back but something had to happen to trigger that move in the first place. Some relationship wasn't working out and none of the elements have changed since he left.

I'd be surprised if you guys got Ehrhoff back, especially at 4.5mil/yr. The Canucks will no doubt offer 5mil, and he's said on numerous occasions he really likes the team and organization. I just find it hard to believe he'd go back to the team that gave up on him before he truely broke out, and at a discount too.

The Sharks are really close. They could use another quality 2-way top 4ish defenseman imo. Shame they don't have Ehrhoff still. I could see them making a strong pitch for Brewer.

i think the coach should stay.

roster-wise, moving Heatley would probably be a good idea unless there was an undisclosed injury he was battling all season. paying a guy 7.5M$ for 60-70pts is never a great thing.

I'd also look to move Marleau for Bogosian. Marleau's been very good for the sharks, but they need some help on the back-end.

What would the Sabres have to give up inorder to get Marleau? Stafford/Sekera picks? Not really sure what the needs would be for SJ but the Sabres definitely need a number 1 center.

Lombardi refused to trade for Heatley a few years back..so if he didn't like Heatley then, don't think he is going to like Heatley now, especially if he actually have to spend something of significant for him

Butler wouldn't make Shark's defense. He's not an upgrade of any kind for you guys. So basically that's Stafford for Marleau and that's just awful.

Actually you don't understand. He got and groomed Doughty, JJ and Kopitar so he could trade them to his old team to help them out. It was all part of his master plan.

I wish.

you guessed correct. Columbus is not in a position to take on that contract and Umberger is the backbone of this team. he will be signing an extension in the off season.
