I really think people need to accept the reality that hemsky will be here next season, at least for the start. No team is trading anything of value for a currently injured, often injured player. If Hemsky shows he can stay healthy and be an impact player there will be some interest next season, but 99% sure he's an oiler to start next year.
However, this is probably in our best interest as he's entering the prime of his career and will really help with the veteran presence.
Watching Mem Cup, I could easily see Huberdeau going second. Yea, he plays on a stacked team. So did Hall. But players that "stick out" on a stacked team is a sign of good things IMO.
Also, anyone notice Huberdeau looks bigger that his stats say? He looks like he's 6'4 on ice haha

He goes top 5 for sure, I'm 100% positive on that, and I think it's 50/50 that Colorado picks him second overall. Both Landeskog and Huberdeau have a bunch of intangibles but Huberdeau has more raw skill. Colorado has a tough choice.
Edmonton should draft RNH and trade the farm for Couturier.
Does 19 + 31 + Gagner + Hemsky get us Couturier?
RNH - Couturier 1-2 down the middle would set this franchise up for a decade.
I'd rather package 19th, Hemsky, and Gagner for Adam Larsson if/ or when he falls and then pick up one of Grigorenko or Galchenyuk as our #2C and take the 31st and trade up for Klefbom

IF we could somehow move up to 4th I would take Huberdeau over Courtourier
So would I. Courtourier is bigger and a 'natural' center but Huberdeau has at least a step on Courtourier and has superior hockey instincts. Huberdeau is going to be a hell of a hockey player. With that being said, there's no way I select him over Nugent-Hopkins. For me there's a clear cut number one pick, then 4 players after that whom complete the upper echelon in no particular order.
I didn't watch the mem cup but Huberdeau winning the MVP has to be taken into account. It is always a big accomplishment for an under-ager to win that award.
Looking at his numbers, he had a killer playoffs as well. Much better than both RNH and Couturier.
Having 2 Memorial cup mvps would go a long way in creating a winning culture here. If Huberdeau is bigger than RNH, I would not be upset with taking him one bit.
The only trade up I'd do is trading up to 12-14 to ensure one of Scheifele/McNeill/Miller/Brodin/Klefbom in the draft.

A little bit worse, only because Hall was very dominant. Huberdeau is a great player, but the team does look to him for a lot of there offense which increases his production and makes it more so that he carried a "stacked" team.
Huberdeau was not nearly as good as Hall was last season but he was alright. Definately did not deserve the MVP, De Saairs easily should have won. I think Huberdeau will be a great player in the NHL and should go to Colorado 2nd overall.

Huberdeau was fantastic but he never put on the jaw dropping show Hall put on. Huberdeau doesn't have that speed and he doesn't drive to the net like that.
Huberdeau's a great short passer, good with the give and go. Great instincts, knows when to jump into the lanes to score and when to set up players in the slot. I see hes caught out of position and sometimes picks up the wrong man on his assignments and doesn't win all the battles you would like to see him win. I don't think any of his skills are truly elite but everything that has to do with offense he is very good at.
I think that would get us more than Couturier. At least it better with that package.
