As a fan, I'd be thrilled with any of the three. I'm sure the 'Canes would be too.

The problem is, most scouting agencies have Oleksiak trending upwards into as high as the top 10 (lets say an average of 15th). I haven't seen any late season scouting that has him below 20th - and even mid-season he was only in the 20-24 range... i'm not sure that a 25th overall pick is at all a reasonable assessment of where he will go, particularly because of his unique combination of size and skill.

There are not a lot of 6'7 defensemen in the league who can skate, and given he could put on an inch or two still, he could be fearsome on the backend.

most mocks and scouting agencies had fowler and gormley top 7-8 last year and some as top 5. they went 12 and 13 overall. oleksiak slipping to 25 is not that ridiculous if there is a run on forwards in the draft.

Yeah, but scouting agencies aren't teams. You never know how things are ordered from team to team to team. There is no doubt that Oleksiak is a great example of a size and skill combo but I have my reasons as to why he might slip a bit. We'll see what happens.

I agree with you - I just think you have several teams picking defensemen ahead of Oleksiak - many of them would likely be intrigued by the combination he brings, that's all.

I really think I released it 2 days early. After Huberdeau's final encore performance in the final, I almost think he is the Avs guy at 2. I just hope it's him or Landeskog right now.

Ended up nailing 7 of the 30 picks in round 1. Not bad I guess.

Predicted the top 4, which is where the heavy decisions were made. Others I got right were Miller to NYR, Klefbom to Edm at 19 and Siemens to Avs at 11.

You did pretty damn good. It only took a couple of teams to throw your predictions a little out of whack. Quite happy with Montreal's selection. Thanks for all the hard work.

I as well was impressed. Although it seems like me and you were the only one's who wanted Lando and Siemens.
