Sorry, I should have been clearer. It was a value statement, not a capspace comment.

He's going to grow wings and use the force to propel the puck into the net.

Hes still young, hes good along the boards and has shown he can be a decent playmaker, Peter Schaefer had 50 points and I see some similarities in their games, including busting out highlight reel goals every now and then. Nick is bigger I think, but I've never seen anybody hold the puck against the boards so well that the other 4 sens on the ice could all change with the puck in the offensive zone like Schaefer did. So yeah, I think he could do it.

Foligno has never shown - at any level - top 6 offensive potential. I don't know why we're surprised. He's a good player, but he's a 3rd liner in my view.

I also don't see any contradiction in rating a player like Butler higher, particularly since Butler has an NHL shot/release (something Foligno lacks).
At this point I'd rather develop him as an elite 3rd line winger. I'd rather him round out his defensive game while he's young and take a definitive role than continue to be a tweener who bounces between the 2nd and 3rd lines.

I see him as a player similar to Fisher in the sense that he can be a very good 3rd liner, or a below average 2nd liner. He definitely belongs on this team for a few more years to see how far he can develop.

Except Fisher's an average 2C and would be an elite 3C.
