Wisniewski's next contract

Self-explanatory.

We all know he's a pending UFA and he wants to bank on a 50+ point season. He's one of the big names one of Detroit, Toronto, NY Rangers, Columbus, Carolina, NJ Devils may end up signing. How much will he be signing for?

He's been asking for #2 money for a while now and will probably get it by someone. Sadly he will be overpaid. Might just be by a little who knows.

North or south of $5 million? (I haven't watched him nearly enough to take a good guess).

He's probably going to get $4.5M or so.

If I had to guess what he will get I would agree with the poster above and say about $4.5 mil which is not the worst thing for a team. I wouldn't want him for anything over $5 mil.

On the basis of watching him with the Habs, 4 million is fair, 4.5 million is acceptable, 5 is what he'd get from a desperate team on the open market. Other teams should be warned that playing in Montreal with a strong powerplay group and a stable of veteran left handed defenders to compliment him at even strength played to his strengths as a player. I wouldn't expect him to be as successful in another organization.

Sounds like he would fit in Detroit... just saying.

He'd be a perfect Rafalski replacement if Detroit is looking for a similar player.

FWIW, Wisniewski is a native of Michigan.

Certainly, the Wings may first target Bieksa or Kaberle on July 1st but I could see them going for Wisniewski as a fall-back plan to handle the duties Rafalski had.

he reportedly requested 3 years /14M at midseason before Snow felt it was too much and shipped him to montreal, so if i had to guess since he played well as a Hab, Id guess 5M or more if he can play two or more teams off of each other.

He's got a history as a hired gun so to speak, Going wherever the money is. Montreal needs defenders, Molson has Money so I could see him staying where he's well covered for

but even as a canadien, dont give him too many years since eventually you'll wanna trade him. he just seems to wear out his welcome before long

Which teams would sign him for $4.7M/year? Seems par for the course...

I see him getting 4.5 a year minimum, and 5.5 a year maximum.

If he wants to stay in Montreal he's not getting more than 4, in fact I can't really see PG paying more than 3.75 a year.

for 4.2,4.3m he might get it in Montreal, anymore than that he might have to elsewhere. Paired with Markov, he d look good.

I'd be a little tepid if I were Burke to sign him. We've recently dug ourselves some pretty big holes by giving UFAs big money after limited success in the NHL (Finger - 3.5M x 4, Komisarek - 4.5M x 4, Blake - 4M x 5).

As much as I like Wiz, if he ask for more than 5M$ I may be tempted to make a pitch at Bieksa, if he's available by july 1st.

He's a valuable player due to his production and determination but, unless he's paired up with the right partner he becomes a liability. In that sense, he's been traded on account of the fact that it's hard to pair him with the right player. In that regard, he's sort of a luxury for teams and one that few can afford (hence his movement).

That being said, I think the dollar value of his next contract will be largely dependent on other factors surrounding the team and the terms of his contract. When he came to Montreal, he mentioned he was tired of moving all over the league and was mostly just looking for a place to settle. After watching him for a while this season, what was most apparent was how much he hated losing and his determination to win (particularly in the playoffs). I think offering him a secure contract with a competitive team would greatly reduce his dollar value.

If he's getting short-term offers (say 1-2 seasons) I can see him holding out for $4.5mil-$5.5mil but if your a competitive team in a position to offer him a place to make a home with little to no uncertainty I think he can be signed for $3.5mil-$4mil.

4-4.5 I'd take it.

Markov and his contract at 5.5ish would be 1. Subban at less than a mill 2. Gorges around 2 mill, or less 3 and Wiz 4. Yemelin at less than a mill at 5 and Spacek at almost 4 at 6. Though, Weber at around 1 mill is better than Spacek. Montréal's d would be so odd.
