Agreed. When Elias was captain, Parise was only in his second season, and their other offensive threats were Gomez, Gionta, and Langenbrunner. And Elias did still lead the team in scoring that year.

Nobody on this team has shown any consistently sustainable leadership qualities.

With that said, I'm perfectly fine with a rotating captaincy or having no captain. That's the best option for now.

And inducing someone (Parise) with the Captaincy in order to stay with the team is something that a joke of a franchise like the Atlatna Thrashers do, like when they gave the C to Kovalchuk in some kind of ploy to convince him to stay.

Besides, the Captaincy of the NJD has been the kiss of death in the post 2003 world.

Definitely hard to fill Stevens' shoes. (skates?)

Sutter should never have stripped him of the C in the first place.

Kovalchuk is Russia's captain. I see no reason why he can't be New Jersey's captain.

He's qualified, doesn't necessarily make him the best candidate though. I'm sure Elias has captained stuff for Czech and Parise will soon be captaining USA teams as well.

I believe the natural captain of the team is the player who best embodies the qualities we want the whole team to exhibit. And that's Parise.

Agree wholeheartedly with what you said here.......until that last word. I think it's Zajac who embodies it more.

I think Elias has grown a lot since the last time he was Captain, he let the C weigh on him, but now I think it comes naturally to him - oh, and he's old so hey why not?

Zajac is the better two-way forward, but Parise is no slouch in that department. What sets Parise apart is his work ethic. That's the main quality that I want the rest of the team to emulate.

Zach come on down and grab your C.
i really don't think a C on somebodys sweater makes a difference when on the ice, elias does not have the same desire as he used to. after a hepatitis and a concussion he is no longer the best guy for the job.

its parise or kovalchuck hands down, both have a desire to win and lead by example.

For some guys it can be a burden. Marleau in SJ is a good example. He became much more productive again once he was stripped of the C.

captains are natural despite a letter or not. putting a "c" on somebodies sweater does not make them captain, you either are or you are not. scott stevens was, messier was, jeter is, brind a mour is or was, all this garbage about captain is entertaining to me because you guys think it actually matters way more than it does. it matters when a guy truly takes charge of team and they are rare

Parise if he signs or Zajac, if Zach doesn't.

He'll re-sign. And probably the first thing a new coach will do is make him the captain.

Right. Exactly. Which is perfectly why I can be happy with this team having a rotating captaincy or no captain at all.
