There is speculation that IF Larsson isn't available at 4 the Devils may trade down and draft either coveted defenseman Ryan Murphy or powerforward Zibanjeb.
New Jersey also clears capspace to resign Parise and adds an additional early 3rd round pick. And they take a chance on a player who is looking to comeback after an injured filled season who's on his last year of his contract
When healthy he is #3-4 defenseman with powerplay abilities.
Why the Senators do this:
There is also speculation that Ottawa wants to move up and draft one of; Huberdeau, Landeskog or Courturier.
Ottawa has capspace to take advantage of other teams cap casualties.
Ottawa adds depth on top 6, with veteran experience.
It's possible, but I don't know if Rolston could be traded at the draft, he has an NTC, and it could be tough to get him to waive it in time.
It really depends most on who is available at #4.
You bring up a good point about Rolston. But we could have an agreement before hand that states that if the player you guys want is available is there you will take him, if not the deal goes through.
Much like Ottawa and St.Louis (David Rundblad deal) trade at the deadline. Murray wanted to see if Schwartz or Forbort were on the board first before swinging the deal for David Rundblad.
I am aware that it is dependent on who's available at #4, but it's an option to just consider lol.
We throw in Vasyunov or Corrente and can we make that 65 turn into 35 ?
I wouldn't trade our 2nd round pick for Vasyunov, and we don't really need Corrente. I would change the 65th to Boston's 2nd Rounder or maybe Chicago's, but not our own.

I think I rather keep the 48th pick then trade for Vasyunov.
We're near the maximum amount of contracts. Are farm team is stacked and it looks like we won't have room for him in the NHL either. I rather draft a prospect therefore we have 3years to qualify and offer to him.
I rather give a shot to Condra, O'Brien, Daugavins, Wick who all put similar number up but have played through our system.

Not sure if it would go through but it's a solid proposal. Getting rid of Rolston's contract is nice. Just have no idea where Kuba fit's in with our young guys on D ready to come up.
As a Sens fan, New Jersey is getting hosed on the original deal. If they are looking for Murphy and want to trade up, they might not have a choice though.

That's a great proposal, and as a Sens fan, I would do it in a second.
Kuba makes #3.7, so taking on Rolston is not that big of a deal for the Sens but I don't think it would be worth it from NJ's standpoint for an extra $1.3 of cap space unless it was for a good 2nd.
If Larsson's gone, I'd do it. There's simply no room for Vasyunov in NJ. At 6, there's probably a very good chance of snagging Couturier or Murphy.
Yeah,
It's under the assumption that If Larsson is no longer there then the trade goes through. Their's speculation that New Jersey likes Ziba or Murphy, so why not add some assests and get rid of a "unmoveable" contract.

The Devils' head of scouting, David Conte, recently had an interview with Tom Gulitti, a Devils beat writer, and he said that he'd have no hesitation making a pick as soon as the Devils are on the clock at #4. I highly doubt he's looking at Zibanejad or Murphy at #4, so there's clearly someone in the top tier that he likes more.

I don't have the links for it either(can't remember where....look on the sens board draft thread perhaps), but I do recall reading a number of places that you guys do have interest in Zibenajad and Lou MIGHT take a chance on him............just sayin

I hope this isn't being a part of the Ottawa/Landeskog hope. I haven't heard a single hint of a suggestion that we're targeting Zibby. I highly doubt we'd be taking him with RNH, Huberdeau, and Couturier all being ranked ahead of him in terms of centers. If those three go 1-2-3, then boom, Larsson. I really can't see us taking Zibanejad.
I have no idea why the Devs would do this and pass up what looks like a chance to take Couturier. He and Zajac would be an ideal 1-2 punch down the middle.
A 3rd rder and 1.3mil in cap room for one year is going to change their mind?

Maybe when we still had the 8th pick, we were looking at him. But since we won the lottery, hell no.
I think Lou would require a large premium to move down, and taking our salary dump won't do it.
