Bob McKenzie.

Betting Andrew Ladd will be first player signed by Winnipeg. It's believed Ladd has new extension in place. Approval on hold re: ownership.

Just saw this.

He'd be a great 1st captain for this team to have.

I hope he signs. It'd be a shame for the team to move and lose one of their leaders in the process.

I wonder why Dudley didn't need permission to sign Byfuglien but did for Ladd?

I hate to say it, but it sounds like Ladd only wanted to sign an extension if the team went to Winnipeg.

It would be nice if this gets done. Retaining the team's captain should be ownership's #1 priority.

I think it has less to do with the team moving to Winnipeg than it does more to do with the team NOT being owned by ASG... Go talk to marian Hossa and Ilya

Told now Andrew Ladd's extension was never agreed to. Not huge reach to get it done but he will want to see who's running the show in WPG.

THAT sounds like an issue with the coach/gm?

I hope that this can get done for two reasons:

1) Ladd will be a great Captain for Winnipeg. Tough, two-way Canadian leader. Will be an instant fan favorite.

2) Signing Ladd will be a good step to quiet the "nobody wants to play in Winnipeg" talk.

im sure Byfuglien deal got the OK from the previous ownership..
but then when it got to a certain point in the season they decided to hold off on any deal because they were considering a move..
it might not be from Ladd's side at all

Winnipeg should dump Waddell and Ramsey. Dudley is signed long term. He recently got a 4 year extension. Is it possible to re-assign him or put someone above him to run the hockey department? Dudley is a good scout but not a good #1. Why wouldn't Ladd want to play in Winnipeg? He is from western Canada. He has played in Carolina and Atlanta. He was comfortable with the direction of Tharshers with their squabbling owners and Waddell at the helm? Comfortable with Dudley and Ramsey as the GM/Coach? Winnipeg should hire former Jet Paul Fenton as their GM. He has worked with David Poile in Nashville and seem to know what is going on without having a lot of money to spend. Fenton is probably the most qualified NHL exec who has never been a NHL GM.

Sounds to me like Ladd just wants to know the ins and outs of the franchise before he commits to anything. He may or may not like the current coach/GM, may just want to know for sure who will be in those positions before he commits.

I thought Dudley was very good in his first season at the Thrasher's GM.

Adds Byfuglien, Wheeler, Ladd, Mark Stuart, and Burmistrov at the expense of pick #24 in 2010, Jeremy Morin, Brent Sopel, Rich Peverley, Boris Valabikand Marty Reasoner. Signs a successful reclamation project in Anthony Stewart, too. They should give him a year or two to prove himself, IMO.

A lot of people assume Ladd wanting to wait means he has an issue with a coach/GM. But perhaps it's the other way around. Maybe he enjoys the coach/GM and wants to make sure they're still with the team before he signs. Just a different perspective.

I bet he just wants to get a feel for the new ownership group, to hopefully get an idea of the direction of the team.

Would love to see him in DC, the type of character player with a bit of snarl and scoring abilities.

Semin out and replace him w Ladd.

I'm sure he's just trying to decide if he wants to sign a long term deal, or a short deal and then test free agency. If he gets the sense that ownership is committed to build a winning team in the Peg then I think he will sign a long term deal.

Absolutely agree, will give a lot of "credibility" (not that I personally think it lacks any) to the franchise, since the whole "people won't want to play in Wpg" crap has been going around.

Ladd's a great Canadian kid, people will love him.

OHHH HE'S A GOOD OLE CANADIAN BOY! WADDIDITELLYA?!!?

If Ladd stays in Winnipeg, the team will be pretty much set for their top six, minus a top line center. Maybe they'll be in the mix for signing Richards this off-season?

I think Ladd is just stringing the franchise along until July 1 so he can see what else is out there.

He's an RFA. The only thing he can do on July 1st is sign an offer sheet.
