Edmontons 2012 pick

I know its still a year away but For the past week Ive been thinking about next year draft. I was wondering if edmonton was gonna get a 3rd straight lotto pick or maybe a 4th straight top 10 pick . Ive also been thinking about who they might draft:

-Ryan murray D
-Nail yakupov RW
-Mikhail Grigorenko C
-Pontus Åberg LW
-Martin Frk RW
-Henrik Samuelsson F (couldnt find his positon)
-Nick Ebert D
-Charles Simard-Hudon LW

( the bold means Players to watch and for more prospects http://dansallows.com/2012-nhl-draft-prospects/ )

The top 5 may look like this:
1.Senators
2. Avalanche (assuming they wont be able to nab a #1 Goalie)
3.Edmonton
4. Panthers
5. Wild or Stars

(My Top 5 maybe off but it may look somthing like this)

So who do you guys think Edmonton should be watching

I don't wear rose coloured glasses, first of all. With that said: I believe the Oilers will be in a position to possibly draft Griffin Reinhart. Then again, this is still over a year away; a lot can happen between now an then i.e. players dropping and players coming out of nowhere.

He is Oil Kings property, but decided at the time to take the collegiate route. Imagine having two 2012 prospects on the same team?

Henrik Samuelsson is a RWer.

If somehow we end up in the 10-15 area, it's between him and Zemgus Girgensons for me(unless one of the top-tier D fall).

Henrik is Ulf Samuelsson's son, and basically the 2012 Landeskog(but a natural RWer).

I'd love two big Swedes(Samuelsson and Paajarvi) on the wings of our 2nd line.

It's tough to speculate at this point(no fun. I know). This time last year Couturier and Larsson were considered dead even and then there was a drop off to Nugent-Hopkins at 3rd. Now RNH is pretty much the consensus 1st overall pick, Larsson is #2 and Couturier is probably going to go 4th or 5th.

A lot can change in a year.

Like Wheatking said, a lot can(and will) change in a year.

That said, Matt Dumba really impressed me in the games I saw him play. He has some really nice tools, and if he's able to put them together, I think he has some really nice high end potential. I'd take him.

Holy, one year at a time.

Who knows what will happen this year any way. Rebuilding teams tend to go from crap to good pretty fast these days.

One of Dumba, Reinhart, or Ebert would be great. We don't need anymore lottery picks.

If the oilers get another first overall pick

this board will be a war zone for the entire year

Too early to predict. I'd wager last year few people would predict that the Oilers would be picking 1st overall again. Even early in the year many were hoping the Oilers will have a shot at Siemens/Musil (top 10 pick).

The realistic expectation is that the Oilers will NOT make the play-offs. Where they finish will depend the following:

1) how Hall/Eberle/Paajarvi/Omark/Gagner/Cogliano/Brule/Hartikainen progress.
2) whether or not Hemsky/Whitney/Horcoff can stay healthy.
3) the performance level of Habibulin/Dubnyk
4) the ability of Tambellini to sign a couple of quality vets.

If stars allign and the OIlers have a good season, we are probably looking at 10-14th overall pick.

If not, probably another lottery pick, that can become 1st or 2nd overall. If they take RNH this year, I sure hope they take a defenseman next year.

I want the Oilers to get Yakupov next year... but I'd also "settle" for Grigorenko. Another lotto pick is what they'll likely get and if they come away with Yakupov or Grigorenko it WILL be worth it.

I'm fully embracing the philosophy if you can't win a Cup... you might as well get the #1 pick instead. They ain't winning a cup next year... so why not add a franchise player.

Huh?

Anyone want to speculate who the Oilers choose in 2015? It'll be a high choice in 2012, I think. Yakupov would be nice.

assuming grigorenko will come over to the NHL, he is the player i would be taking #1 overall as of right now.... yakupov is right there as well, but grigorenko is already a big man (6'2") and plays centre, so he gets the nod so far

It's really disappointing to see some fans have given up on the season already. Hallsy could very well put up a 30-40 goal campaign, Hemsky, Horcoff and Whitney will come in entirely healthy, the #1 job will go to Dubnyk, and we'll have some really hard working roll players in Jonesy, Hartikainen and VV.

Like a poster above said, these rebuild teams go from crap to awesome so fast that if you blink you could miss it.

My bold prediction, this is the year the Oil fly above the Flames....

I know it's impossible to assume, especially considering the final rosters aren't even close to being set for next year, but I really can't see the Oilers climbing out of the bottom 5. I can see a jump out of the bottom 3, based upon how bad some other teams are getting, Colorado and Ottawa. But if we draft RNH, which I'm sure we will, he'll spend another year in the W for seasoning and strengthening, meaning Horcoff or Gagner will be our top 2 centers. Another negative, our big 3.5, Hall, Paajarvi, Eberle and Omark will probably all be entering their imminent sophomore slumps, meaning our greatest forward threats will have struggles. Fortunately, I do believe if we play Habby enough, we can guarantee a top 3 pick. Which in my mind is a good thing.

With that said, if the Oilers do take Nugent-Hopkins and send him back to junior for a year (I can't see it happening, personally, but you never know), and don't fill some of the glairning needs they've failed to fill for the past 3 years, then I think it's very likely they finish well out of the playoffs and probably picking in the top 5 again. Hall/Eberle/Paajarvi/etc. will all be a year older and likely improved on impressive rookie seasons, but we'll also be a full year without Penner, and probably half a season or more without Hemsky as well (I figure he's gone at the deadline if not this offseason).

IMO we should be stockpiling draft picks for next year.

Edmonton will finish bottom 5 next again (no choice).

Ryan Murray would be my pick.

I think there is a 95% we send RNH back to Junior
