Cogliano/Gagner

Sabres fan here. Just wondering what it would take in your eyes to acquire either of these two players. I know Gagner is significantly more valuable but I'm just wondering.

Is this a thread to mock us for our pathetic gathering of centres? Seriously, is there a team that wants Gagner, let alone Cogs at this point? If you are not jesting, the Oilers would be happy to take your janitor in a straight up trade for Cogs...his play last year stank of feces on a nightly basis so he has experience in the field of Sanitation Engineering.

How about a defenseman like Butler for one of the two? Maybe Butler for Cogliano and a third round pick. Or Butler and TJ Brennan for Gagner?

Buffalo has nothing the Oilers want for Gagner. Something around Butler for Cogs has some possibility though.

And Oiler fans, stop being dumb. Gagner is our best center. When you have crappy centers, trading them away isn't the solution.

I'd ask for Kassian if you wanted Gagner.

Not sure why the Oilers would want to trade Gagner, but I imagine Cogliano could be available.

I disagree. Gagner should be moved asap for just about anything.

this i agree with

I think that people need to relax on gagner and realize he is one of the best young players in the game

Gagner has been a disappointment in Edmonton only because he showed such great promise in his first year. He hasn't truly developed his game further since then it seems, which is why he has become a whipping boy.

He is one of the best players from his draft year, playing on an awful hockey team. I think this board needs to realize that he is still young and should grow as this team grows. To suggest that he is worthless, or needs to be traded is asinine?.

He is not a number one center by any means, but he doesn't hurt this team like some are suggesting.

I'd rather part with Gagner as well. Cogliano is on his way to becoming one of the leagues premier penalty killers. If Andrew can work on his upper body strength some he may even become a 60% guy in the faceoff circle.

If we're talking Sabres here the only thing i'm interested in is Tyler Myers. You could have Gagner and whoever else you want out of our "available basket" if you like. How about a studly in his prime centerman with only a 5.5 cap hit locked in for four more yrs to go with said Gagner?

Players I would covet from the Sabres would be Kassian, Adam or Pysyk.

I think everyone knows why we would want to trade Gagner (rightly or wrongly), especially if we draft RNH.

Zack Kassian, Brayden McNabb and Luke Adam, 1st and 2nd round picks are the only attractive pieces on Buffalo (besides obvious untouchables like Myers).

Cogliano is unlikely to ever get to 60% but its important to remember that Manny Mo was 40-45% his first 4-5 years in the league too.

Why would you move a 22 year old second line center? The only reason is if you are getting a better center. That's not on the table in Buffalo. For some reason twits on this board have made Gagner the current scapegoat for everything. If Eberle gets no better this season, are you guys going to want to trade him for beans too? Man you guys have no clue.

Maybe we can afford to trade Gagner once RNH actually proves himself in the NHL. Until then, heading into the regular season with Cogliano as our best center would be retarded. I still can't figure out why so many Oil fans think its necessary to trade from our weakest position before we build any backup strength there. Its a sure fire way to become the new Florida Panthers, perennial losers with no future.

I would prefer to keep both at the moment. We are terrible thin down the middle, even if we draft RNH, so Gagner in the top 2 for center is still a must.

Cogliano showed last year that he could be okay as a center or wing in a shut down role. Considering this was the first real time that he had been asked to do this role, I'd like to see where he can take his game in this style. His speed is a huge help for shutting down opposition oppenents, now he just needs to work more on face offs and positioning. We aren't going to be challenging for the cup next year, so it would be nice to see if he can fill out in this role before shipping him off for more prospects/draft picks. This is a very important role for any cup winning team.

Wouldn't that be nice lol. I agree about the only player we'd want is Myers, but we'd have to add a lot

So you know like one guy in the nhl is that good at faceoffs but now Cogs is gonna jump like 35% to be the best in the nhl and all he has to do is work out. i wonder why he never tried getting stronger before

These are the same idiots who ran Arnott out of town and like you say in 3 years with our new first round picks one of Eberle or MPS will be the new scape goat for not measuring up to...Cogliano.

These posts are cringe worthy. He is becoming a bottom 6 player so we should keep him. Lets not let the fact managment never fills holes on the roster to start over valuing grinders. A few months ago people would have taken back salary dumps just to get rid of Cogs and now he is more valuable then the teams number 1 centre

I would be interested in Kassian and Pysyk, but I'm hesitant to move Gagner. I understand Cogliano alone wouldn't get a deal done - what else would you need added to work something around a Cogliano/Kassian deal?
