Paying Campbell 7.2m was considered ridiculous also, and the cap was much lower back then.

Someone will figure out a way to do it, never fear.

....Sather. Haha. He needs a #1 center this offseason though, otherwise he'd be right in there.

Anyways, to the proposal. As much as I'd like to see Ladd in Vancouver, I think it'd cost us more. Even if Ladd quietly asked to be traded, his value would be higher than this.

TO VAN
Ladd
4th

TO ATL/WNP
Hodgson
Samuelsson
1st in either 2011 or 2012

Something like that might get it done assuming Ladd wanted to go. What would Atlanta fans think of that? As a Canucks fan, I'd likely do it. Keep in mind Samuelsson is more of a salary dump than a piece of value, even though he is still a top 6 forward signed for 1 more season at a reasonable rate.

I'd move Samuelsson as well but Gillis wouldn't. UFA, injured season, down year, low value etc etc

Lets not go that far.. Ehrhoff is likely worth 5mil. He put up 50 points this past season, he's above average defensively, and he's entering the prime years of a defenseman. While I think he has infact peaked and he won't get any better, 5mil for such a defenseman is still pretty solid value. Rafalski was great, but he was on the down end of his career. I think most would rather Ehrhoff due to his mobility, all things remaining equal. Even still, I don't think either of them are worth 6mil..

If ATL/WPG suddenly needed D... Ballard + 3rd round pick?

I don't think Atlanta/Winnipeg does this. Ladd is the captain and Atlanta already has a young goalie.

We don't need D.

If Ladd goes anywhere, it's for a top 6 forward in return, probably a prospect or pick as well.

The idea behind this was that Winnipeg management would be smart to try and bring in players that Winnipeg hockey fans are already familiar with. Canucks are ripe with these because of the Moose.

I was thinking:

Schneider, 1st in 2011, Shirokov (or other prospects)

Schneider was the Moose goalie for like 5 years and Shirokov has been very good with the Moose this year. The 1st would be this year's so it'd be 29/30.

What is the value on Ladd like?
Atlanta trades their leading scorer for a back-up goalie and a low low low first?

How 'bout Kessler for Pavelic, Atlanta 1st, and a prospect -- that's what you are suggesting...doesn't look so great the other way around.

Hey guys, I'm a big Atlanta fan, but Ladd is definitely being over-valued as a Winnipeg Thrasher. Ladd has had one big-year and has one year of RFA status remaining. If he is not content with the team relocating to Winnipeg, then he will force a one-year deal and bolt, whether it is right or not. I fully understand why he would want to do: the team's season fell apart this year when rumors of relocation entered the locker room.

So, the Schneider trade is excellent value, barring the whole problem that Pavelec is younger and equally-talented in goal. Winnipeg will not get full market value considering they would be forced to trade him and the perception that this season may be an anomaly for Ladd. Something is better than nothing.

The OP is a big package for an RFA.

Ladd would be nice for sure (a more talented Raffi Torres-type).

I dont however see Ladd taking $3million/yr, Byfuglien is getting 5+, Ladd is likely in line for $4-5million/year.

SALARY CAP: $63,000,000; CAP PAYROLL: $62,683,333; BONUSES: $0

This was the lineup I drew up to see if this was possible. I gave Bieksa a $4 contract because of the Vancouver Sun article about Bieksa, Burrows & Kesler all being best friends and their wives & kids all close etc so I figured he would stay for around that. It's definitely doable if Ehrhoff wants to be nice.

The Schneider value was that he costs less than Pavalec and he was the Moose goalie for 5+ years so there would be an immediate attachment to him. Pavalec can always be dealt to a team without a young starter as well.
how are you going to resign them for that price?

Yep. Ladd, Bieksa, and Ehrhoff all with huge hometown discounts there.
Given the crap that Ladd's family took in Van, I don't see him going there.

Actually, I don't see him going anywhere. Why would Winnipeg/Atlanta trade their captain? For a pretty weak package at that?

It doesn't matter what Ehrhoff is worth in a vacuum. Look at the context of the upcoming free agency and, more specifically, Detroit's future needs. Ehrhoff is by far the best UFA defenseman on July 1 (unless the Canucks re-up). Detroit just lost Rafalski to retirement and Lidstrom isn't too far behind. They need an elite puck mover. So unless they can pry captain Weber from a division rival, the best option right now has got to be Ehrhoff, and he's going to be able to cash in.

Hodgson, Raymond for Ladd?.... seems like a pretty big overpayment seeing how Raymond and Ladd put up around the same numbers and I have a hard time believing the difference is that of Hodgson... I would never pay that much for a bit of an upgrade on Raymond. I'd like to have Ladd here but not at that cost.

It's not about the points, it's about how they get them.

I don't think I'd do Raymond + Hodgson but I would likely do Raymond, Shirokov, pick

Kesler doesn't need a coward like Ladd on his wing.

He can do better then a gutless, soulless, lawless bafoon in Ladd.

Come on people, this is madness!
