Will the goalie market rise again?

After seeing two no name goalies make it to the final last year (with all due respect to Neimi. Was a no name last year), this year is a different story of course. It looks like big name goaltending is back in style with the two Vezina finalist.

It depends more on which goalies are available. Vokoun, Bryzgalov and Roloson are really the only notable UFA goalies and I'd imagine that Roloson will re-sign with Tampa or retire.

'Elite' goalies don't really reach UFA that often and if a team acquires one, they're likely going to hang onto them for as long as they can. I wouldn't expect the goalie market to "rise again" this year.

Bryzgalov has a chance to make a killing if his agent gets a bidding war going.

Vokoun as well, but less so due to age.

That said aside from them, I doubt the Mike Smiths of the world will be raking it in.

With whom exactly? The few teams that need a true number one goalie are either up against the cap or pretty darn close.

The fact is, theres only 30 starting jobs. About 25 of them are locked down for sure. Theres just not good leverage for some of the bigger names, especially if they want to actually play for a contending team.

Short answer? No. Teams will continue to draft and develop goalies from late round picks and continue to promote them till they falter. Just how it goes.
