After reading this thread I'm definitely getting nervous ahead of tonight. :/

Just about the last thing I want is server issues.

Couldn't think up anything super creative, made a huge Simolean as my city center. Took out three loans for all the roads, lol.

Same here. Got my city to 130,000 in a couple hours with only commercial. Extremely profitable too, about +12,000/hr. Simple grid, all high density avenues, some with street cars.

Haven't gotten the specializations to really work yet.

I went into sandbox mode just too see what works and what doesn't.

Low Density Streets seem like a waste of time. They cause traffic problems and hamper the growth of the city. If you are having traffic problems things like fires grow faster because the fire trucks can't get to them in a timely fashion.

I got my city to 40,000 with a mix of everything in about 2 hrs of gameplay.

Now i think i have a solid strategy of medium roads with high density/street car roads and build with that. Mix the zones with Commercial and Residential. You just confirmed my theories.

I really like the streetcars, I think they work well. My problem is that I like to take out bonds to build huge projects (University) and then I get trapped with no money.

I should add that the reason I went with ALL avenues (no streets at all) is the screen blacked out completely (due to a glitch) anytime I tried to draw a street. So yeah, some random problems like that but overall still enjoyable.

Do you get less money when you're not in sandbox mode or something? I've found the game very easy but I've only played sandbox due to not wanting to deal with disasters/not caring about "achievements".

Hearing all of the online stuff complaints, I've decided to just download Sim City 4.

I have never played any Sim City game so I'm sure this will do just fine.

Make sure you download the Network Addon Mod to correct the huge traffic problems with Sim City 4

One of the few times where i'd say you might have wanted to start at the new Sim City then work over to Sim City 4 which has more features and options...

Good game though.

I'm not sure how EA and Maxis are going to fix this. Pretty ugly.

Thanks for the link. Downloaded the mac version but there seems to be no instructions (also looked at the comments and most had the same problem) as well as glitches, so i'll hold off on trying to install it.

I know this is Sim city, but I think I might be caught in a sort of low level equilibrium trap.

I just want to apologize in advance; I'm having a godawful time syncing with EA's servers, so I accidentally claimed 3 cities. I've abandoned 2 of them now, so perhaps they'll be free in a couple hours or whenever EA's servers have synced up with my game (or vice-versa).

Yea, same happened to me.

I clicked to claim one city and went to play in it but it told me the city was already claimed. I then chose another city and started playing but once I started visiting other cities in the region, I saw the land I couldn't play with was marked as mine.

Other than server issues, how is the game? Debating buying this. I've got an almost two year old Samsung laptop though, but it has a Core i5 and 4 GB of RAM. Will that suffice?

The simulation is pretty good, but the always-on DRM is terrible. No one should buy this game.

Pro Tip:
Nuclear Fallout sucks, but if you somehow end up in that situation just put buildings (IE: Firestations, Police Stations, Hospitals, etc) in the irradiated zone. They won't complain!

Yup, my University is at the fringe areas of radiation.
I put a massive wind farm where the worse fallout is. (sort of ironic)

ALso, aside from the Origin/Server **** fest, as a person who played EVERY single SimCity that existed, I like the new direction of this game.

The setting is much more intimate, micromanaging my large city has been pretty challenging and the social aspect (when it works) is quite an interesting facet.

I'm playing with a co-worker and the synergy between our cities is a very interesting game mechanic.
