Flames fans are livid. Not so much at the return, but more that their top prospect didn't want anything to do with their organization.

How were we certain 15th and 45th get it done, anyway? Especially in this draft/

15th and a good defensive prospective probably get it done better in the first place.

would you do that to move up and grab zibby or would you do that to try and land a top 3 lw?

although zibby would be an incredible get, i'm on the fence on that.

This offseason they are looking at signing Brad Richards. That gives you your number 1 center right there to play with Gaborik.

You have potentially big time scorers with top 6 forward potential in the form of Kreider and Thomas who are not far off imo.

You have Hagelin who has a great 2-way game. Makes for the perfect 3rd line center.

Add that to guys like Callahan, Dubinsky, Stepan, AA, and you have a very tough forward group. If W2 is kept and he finds a way to be consistent its even deadlier.

And now you have a stacked blueline in terms of talent, loaded with you. Staal and Girardi are by no means old. Sauer and McD looked great out there. Now you have Erixon on the cusp of being in the NHL. And if MDZ can get his game together. That is a deadly blueline. Not to mention you have VTank and Kundratek in the minors.

Your farm system is deep. You have extra assets. Maybe the rangers package them for another elite forward.

And of course you have henrik in net.

The future looks very bright.....the near-future that is.
I understand your sentiment, I just think you got a whole lotta maybe going on there.

Richards and Tampa bay could win the Cup next year, he'd make a ton of money TB has plenty of Cap, he'd be back where he knows everything and everyone, and continue to work with the charities HE BUILT, all the while not paying high NY taxes like this most NY schmuck

The great thing about Zibanejad is that he is versatile.

He's not only a high-end center that is solid on faceoffs, he can and has played wing.

So depending on how you need him, he can do both.

I'd definitely go for the LW, but I don't think anyone is realistically available.

Maybe Heatley.

I read Calgarypuck.com before the trade was announced and they wanted Chris Kreider. Or #15.

But losing a top prospect like Erixon who clearly wanted to follow in dad Jan Erixon's footsteps and play for the Rangers is a blow to a team short on high-quality youngsters no matter how you spin the situation.

I remember on draft day sitting in my living room watching the pre draft show and Pierre Mcguire was VERY high on Erixon.

Yeah, hence the . He makes $7.5MM and he can't even break the 40 goal mark on the Sharks stacked forward lineup.

good deal here. hard to argue with erixon.

first, horak was a talent. sorry to see him go, but ya gotta give to get. and we certainly got.

the 2 2nds arent a huge concern. horak is though. i liked his upside.

the thing about erixon is his maturity. hes very calm and cool with the puck. hes a reliable decision maker and very hockey smart. hes a shooter too. nice hard accurate slapper. he addresses a need and is considered nhl ready now.

while i still think we are light on scoring forwards, and im really hoping we draft one in this draft, you can never have enought talented bluelienrs.

i like my skilled russian forwards, but i love swedish defenders and this guy is easily on par with brodin and klefbom. both will be gone in round 1 too.

no matter what you think about slats, the dude can make some pretty creative deals.

Yup.

Another very solid player that will have to compete with other solid players for a spot. The pipe line just git a little stronger. This is the way it's done.

I am quite sure other teams were in on this also. That drove the price.

Nevertheless, we've been talking about trading #15 and #45 to get into the top #10. So here we get a player who is likely a top 15 (at a minimum) and also two years further developed for #45, #57 and a middle of the road prospect. Absolute home run. You make that deal everyday.

A couple of Erixon PP slapshot goals in this video.
Like the way he keeps his stick cocked for the shot, the kids not afraid to pull the trigger...how long has it been since we've had a dman on the point like that?

Horak is back together with Ryan Howse(Flames prospect). Chilliwack linemates. The Rangers selected Horak with the fifth rounder acquired in the Al Montoya trade.

I remember in 2009 a few mock drafts had us taking Erixon at 19 or whatever pick it was that we had.

Can anyone tell me a little about Erixon? What kind of d-man is he? What's his ceiling? Where will he fit in our future plans? Assume I know nothing (because I don't). Thanks.

few thoughts here

if im mike del zotto and im reading this im not happy at all. its not that erixson and mdz have similar skills at all- they dont. one can play defense the other really cant , but theres only so much room on our defense and this guy wasnt acquired to ride buses up and down the east coast and play in hartford.

hes gonna play and sooner rather than later.

you gotta be impressed with our young defense. top 5 in the league. i say yes. easliy.

and we get a 5th back too. i expect us to draft a euro keeper now for sure.

I was hoping we'd only have to give up 1 of our 2nds, but still a good deal.
