Chicago-Tampa Bay

Steve Downie
Brett Clark

Troy Brouwer
Nik Hjalmarsson

Hawks get some edge with Downie and a cheap, quality vet D-man for next year. Bolts get the best player in the deal, Hjalmarsson to add some youth to their D core, especially with a chance of losing Brewer. Brouwer is a good young PWF who would fit in really well on a line with with any of the Tampa stars.

Not a chance.

And Downie is the best player in the deal.

agreed.

Downie showed during the playoffs that he can be very effective when he focuses on staying out of the penalty box.

Kid's a keeper.

I love steve downie and think hes exactly what chicago needs to make another playoff run....is there anything tampa would give him up for on chicago...not our big names? (Toews Kane Dunc Hossa Sharp Seabs)

Probably not to be honest. Theres some peices that will go with this team, I'm certain of that. Downie is one of the safe guys however. He was already told by SFY that he is part of the current and future core of this team.

So you want one of our best players without trading one of yours? Makes perfect sense...where do I sign up?

Downie most likely isn't available, barring a massive overpayment. This is not that overpayment.

Well we still have many valuable players outside of those guys...not even including prospects and draft picks....Hjalmersson, Brouwer, Frolik, Kopecky

I mean downie only had 30 points this season.....not that im trying to downplay his importance because I no how effective he can be.

When it mattered he came up big 14 points in 17 games playing just 12-13 minutes a night. He had a down season this regular season. I expect 50 points or so next season providing he stays healthy (his high ankle sprain was a big issue this year and one of the main reasons for his low totals).

Downie is the perfect example of a player being worth far more to his team than what someone else would pay.

I'd offer a swap of first rounders if it helped, but it doesn't seem like TB fans here will accept anything for Downie.

Statistically, Hjalmarsson and Clark are on par at the moment, but I think within two seasons Hjalmarsson will be the better player, refine his game a bit more.

I really like Brouwer, but not at the cost of Downie.

We should've done Clark for Kopecky while we could've.

I don't think that actually had legs, we were hurting on defense at that time to boot.

Pretty much. Clark also only has 1 year left on his deal.
