Dreger reports Colin Campbell to resign

@DarrenDreger
Sources tell TSN Colin Campbell is giving up role as NHL disciplinarian. Brendan Shanahan will likely take over.

Not going to shed a tear that's for sure. Should be a committee doing this though not one single guy.

Long overdue, and Shanny is a great replacement. I think he will be a great replacement since he has a first hand perspective.

Greg Campbell just saw his next contract value lose a digit.

Resigning in this case is like borderline admitting you couldn't do the job in an unbiased way. (Either that or couldn't handle the pressure)

Either way I blame the NHL more than I do him. It's hard to be unbias and for a guy whose kid plays for an NHL team... the NHL really should have been smarter than this and on top of that should have made it a committee in the first place.

Not at all. He hated Marc Savard and called him a "faker" in emails.

Despite what conspiracy theorists may think, Boston got punished just like every other team in the league (Paille and Marchand suspensions).

Greg has value for what he does on the ice, making him one of the best fourth liners in the league. No one in Boston even likes Colin Campbell.

That was before Campbell's boy became a Bruin.

Awesome. Hopefully Montreal's reaction to the Chara incident helped make this decision. That would mean that our ridiculous rally may have in fact done something.

If you haven't heard it already, you have to hear his interview with the TSN 1050 radio guys about a month ago. Priceless.

You can get it on ITUNES.

It sure as hell didn't encourage him to stay anyway. The NHL looked really bad during that incident.

Campbell definitely did a lot to diminish the NHL's reputation by constantly contradicting his VERY OWN established precedents and making inconsistent rulings, often directly contradicting things he can be demonstrated to have said without explanation or justification.

This is even beyond pretending that a major league like the NHL can credibly have their justice run by a guy whose child is active as a player within the league, or someone who reports to that same hockey dad.

Goodbye and good riddance. If your justice guy doesn't understand the principle of "conflict of interest", maybe it's time for them to hang up the gavel.
