Wanted to get this up early so we can talk about some MMA on the board for once.

Anyone else watch Stann talk about his tour in Iraq and the mission he was on where he was ambushed? I already respected him so much for what he did but what he had to go through makes me just love this guy. A true warrior and not too bad of a fighter.

Not too many big names on this card but it should be decent nonetheless.

Good plan.

So, what are everyone's thoughts on Simeon Thoresen vs. Besam Yousef? I can't wait 3 more weeks for this fight!

I'm actually super jacked for this card. It's free, which always rocks, but I love the opportunity for some of the lesser known fighters. Any one of these lesser lights could pull off an upset and show they're more than people may think.

Cards like this are the ones that can be the best in the game. So hyped.

I'm became a big fan of Stann after reading that as well. I didn't mind him before but now I have the utmost respect for him.

Same here. Can't wait to see him debut. Thiago is no pushover though.

I really like this card too considering it's free. Great main card for a free event and even if I don't know most of the undercard fighters there's always potential for exciting fights there. Looking forward to the kickboxing match between Diabete and Kruth. Both guys are old but it should still be fun to watch. Francis Carmont is a pretty solid prospect on the undercard even if he's 30 already. He hasn't lost in 4 years since he started training with GSP.

Edit: PICKS BELOW

I need to do some more research before I pick winners but these five look clear to me. Gustafsson and Silva should be over quickly; "The Mauler" would be an appropriate nickname for either and I doubt this needs 3 rounds. Stann and Thiago are both probably too well-rounded for Sakara and Bahadurzada; I saw Bahadurzada fight in Belgium last year and his standup looked solid but his UFC debut against a BJJ blackbelt is probably not a good thing. They're not huge names, but Dennis Siver and Cyrille Diabate are both big draws for me; Siver's a tornado and I love seeing his name at the bottom of any main card. This is his first featherweight fight so might be interesting to see how his style and pace hold up if the extra weight is tough to cut. Diabate and Joergen Kruth are both world-class kick boxers, but advantage to the guy who is 17-8-1 (vs about a dozen opponents I've heard of) over a guy who is 5-0 (vs a bunch of guys I haven't).

Looking forward to this card ... one of Gustafsson/Silva, Siver/Nunes or Diabate/Kruth should be the fight of the night.

haha my lasting memory of Bahadurzada is him going 1-2 in Sengoku with the only win coming because Cris Cyborg's husband stupidly broke his elbow by posting his arm during a takedown... aside from that he got choked out by Misaki and then absolutely styled on by Santiago (seriously click this for one of the slickest grappling transitions you'll ever see). Granted, that was 3 years ago and he's gone on a decent run since then, but I think Thiago is gonna be too much for him.

The last 3 fights on the prelims are scary looking, only one I've heard of is Wisely.

Just looked at the date....didn't realize it was THAT far away. I hate having so many cards in a row and then this stretch of nothing just sucks. Seems like forever since there's been a UFC card.

True, though we do have live TUF fights and Bellator every week.

Jason Young has had a couple of fights in the UFC already, he dropped UDs to Poirier and Omigawa (which is honestly a pretty tough pair of matchups for your UFC debut). But yeah I don't know the first thing about those first four guys.

What a mess of a card to pick, lots of guesses here. It feels odd even making picks, it's been so long. Here we go..

Main card:
Light Heavyweight bout: Alexander Gustafsson vs. Thiago Silva - Really tough fight for Silva coming off a long layoff. Gustafsson has just looked so, so good recently that there's no way you can pick against him right now. I love watching both of these guys fight, but I just have no idea what Silva is going to look like. I'll take Gustafsson to actually win this via submission.

Middleweight bout: Brian Stann vs. Alessio Sakara - I like Stann, but Sakara can stand and trade with almost anyone. Should be a slugfest but I see Sakara getting caught and TKO'd.

Welterweight bout: Paulo Thiago vs. Siyar Bahadurzada - Thiago has had the oddest UFC career, so whoever knows what to expect. I think he'll work his ground game and get a sub win though.

Featherweight bout: Dennis Siver vs. Diego Nunes - I've never been overly impressed with Siver, so I'll go with the much more polished Nunes here. I doubt he finishes him, but I think he'll get a tidy win by working top control and being more active on the feet.

Welterweight bout: DaMarques Johnson vs. John Maguire - Johnson is another wildcard. On paper these are the guys that he beats (fringe UFC quality) but I'll go with Maguire here anyway.

Bantamweight bout: Brad Pickett vs. Damacio Page - Never been a fan of Page as I don't think he is UFC quality.

Preliminary card:
Welterweight bout: Papy Abedi vs. James Head
Light Heavyweight bout: Cyrille Diabate vs. Tom DeBlass
Middleweight bout: Francis Carmont vs. Magnus Cedenblad
Lightweight bout: Reza Madadi vs. Yoislandy Izquierdo
Welterweight bout: Simeon Thoresen vs. Besam Yousef
Featherweight bout: Jason Young vs. Eric Wisely
