If Katz wants to waste $3M, he can just give it to me.

I think I might recall hearing Barker was a healthy scratch a couple times down the stretch for the Wild.

A local Minnie beat writer was on Oilers Lunch a couple months ago. He suggested the Wild might not have an appetite to pay Burns what he will be demanding. Then he mentioned he thought there was a good chance Burns or Barker would be traded. Though he said with the way his play deteriorated he had his doubts anyone would take the Barker contract off their hands.

You're right. I shouldve said he's like a poor man's Tom Gilbert, if something like that is even possible, lol. I just don't like the player (Barker), he is a bust for where he was drafted. Has character issues as well.

Burns and Clutterbuck would be nice, both unrealistic though.

The best way to get Clutterbuck is probably to take Barker's negative value as well, unfortunately. But if he's just an average player and not a locker room cancer, his cap hit as a 5-6 defenseman could be bearable for one year.

Clutterbuck + Barker for?

He was the #6 Dman on a bottom 10 team. With our team's all around terrible defensive play he would be exposed like Foster was. He's not an upgrade on anyone in our line up.

Minny isn't going to trade Clutterbuck.

That would be like Edmonton trading Gagner for someone to take Moreau.

If we want to get some size on our d, i would rather try to sign Anton Babchuk.

Huge size, can play physical and will make the big hits occasionally, decent defensively, plus/minus +18 last year with the Flames, can play on 2nd unit pp with his big shot, still maturing as a defenseman at age 27 with some upside, and he is an UFA probably can be had for $1.5M to $2M in a 2 or 3 yrs deal.

Good for a 4th or 5th Dman on our team. Push Foster down to 6th/7th to rotate with one of the young d like Petry.

Top 5 - Whitney, Gilbert, Smid, Peckham, Babchuk,
6th/7th dman - Foster/Petry/Vandy/Rookie

Only reason I see to get him is cap relief as was stated earlier. Think Katz would spend 3 million to move from 19 to 10? Lol

Souray for Barker.

Seems like problem solved for both teams.
I'm not worried about the sauce all that much. What does love mean anyway? Is he in the bars every night getting ripped?
Funny his name came up on here, about a week ago, a co-worker was talking about him and he was saying that Barker is quite well known to be an absolute pi**tank...i have a feeling that thats why he his stock has fallen so hard over the past few years....when he first started in the NHL, i figured he was going to be just as good as Seabrook and Keith and was surprised that he got traded so early in his career...after i heard that about him, i realized that that was probably why he got traded from Chicago. Ever since he went to Minny, you dont hear too much about him anymore, i dont think i would want a guy like that on the team personally.

Edmonton needs to further add to make this work, but I like the idea a lot.

Minnesota would not consider this, ever, especially considering the draft is in Minny. I mean could you imagine the reaction to this deal?

Why on earth would Minnesota chose dropping out of the top 10 to the 2nd round over simply buying the guy out?

It'd more likely be 19, but the only reason would be because it saves the owner money

Yes. Minnesota is going to give up their first round pick this year, with the draft in Minnesota. Yes.

Didnt Cleary have a drinking problem?

Giving a talented player a shot is sometimes wise, despite their problems.

There isn't a single owner in the NHL that would trade out of the top 10 to save 1mil.

Pretty much. Pass on Barker and a big pass on dreams of fleecing Minny in a trade by helping them take Barker off their hands.
